Pretty impressive.

I watched a few of Eric Hansen's streams around the time when it first came out and 35 was when he usually started getting frustrated and swearing at himself.

Giri probably more upset than Shankland about that

Magnus only needs a draw against Giri tomorrow to win the tournament. That has to be the easiest assignment ever.

lol, the day after giris opponent resigns in a drawn position, his opponent offers a draw in a winning position, so he was gifted a full point and carlsen is still ahead of him haha.

Why do I seem to perform best at puzzle rush when I'm drunk and it's 3:30 am?

Because of the surge of testosterone that men get at that time of night.

I (along with a million other people I'm sure) picked up the Berlin right after his World Championship match with some decent results by my low standards.

Also 1. Nf3, with not nearly as much success.

He'll be missed.

I disagree and I'm glad he's gone. I won't miss his negative style, while his inactivity after becoming world champion was a disgrace.

I miss the plethora of high level Spanish games we used to see before he rehabilitated the Berlin. Some of my favourite Kasparov games featured attacking brilliance on the white side of the Spanish.

Not saying that you can't have this opinion, but just curious, what do you mean by "his negative style"?

Re: *** Chess Low Content Thread ***

I admire top level defensive players though not as much as their attacking equivalents, but aiming mainly for a draw with only slight winning chances with black against e4 is pretty bad for an elite player in my opinion, but what do I know?

Re: *** Chess Low Content Thread ***

I'm not the greatest Kramnik fan either, but I think you're hating a bit on the messenger here. The message being The Berlin.

That The Berlin exists is unfortunate for the chess fan who likes to see exciting attacking chess, but you can't really fault the chess professional, whose only task is to take down the greatest chess player that's ever lived, for using every tool, no matter how dull, available to him to accomplish this task.

Kramnik hasn't been Drawnik for at least a few years. In his older age he's been playing wilder stuff, letting loose and having fun. And I'm sure he'd have retired years ago otherwise.

Re: *** Chess Low Content Thread ***

Firouzja is doing Prodigy Things again, btw.

He started with a dominant national championship win (1.5 points ahead of the field) played between Jan. 24th and Feb 3rd.

Then after one day off he dove straight into a pretty strong open, and won *IT* with a clutch final round win over a 2600 GM. That one was played from Feb. 5th to Feb. 11th (note they doubled up games twice, this was 9 games in 7 days).

Then with no rest he went straight into the Third International Stars Cup which'll give him 8 more games against 2600+ opposition. He opened with a draw.

By my math, his live rating is now 2640. If he were to overperform to the tune of +2 in the Stars Cup, he would crack the top 100 list (remember he's still 15 years old).

Stars Cup ends on Feb. 17th (once again a grueling two games in the same day happen two times in the schedule) at which point he'll have played 28 games in 25 days. Time for a rest?

Sure, he gets the 18th off... from chess. And spends it traveling to Russia, where on the 19th he starts Aeroflot. Insane.

My suspicion is that he'll probably burn out by the end of this crazy schedule, and I don't have particularly high hopes for his Aeroflot results, but if he somehow keeps up his good form there's a hypothetical world where by the end of February he's rated 2650+. And he doesn't turn 16 until June.

That's insane, I mean I get that he is young and proibably has high energy levels but that sort of schedule has to have an adverse affect on anyones performance

Played a 2/1 (unrated) game VS Kosteniuk (I know bragging).

It was even until the endgame then I lost...

Someone pointed out that she's a former world champion (I forgot until they pointed this out). I was like, "Oh yeah..." dumbfounded...
