Had a tough day yesterday - two losses in a row.

The first one against an IM was particularly annoying, cause I felt I played a rather great game as black and got what I wanted, but in the zeitnot did not listen to my intuition and instead of making a winning move, which I saw from a far, "calculated" a cleaner win, which pretty much lost on the spot. Coulda been 2/2

In the third game couldn't get away from the earlier loss and blundered in the opening. Tried to put up as much fight as I could, set quite a lot of problems/traps, but ultimately GM technique prevailed. We had a very pleasant post-mortem and he acknowledged that he was not expecting to have to play the full game (we were almost the last to end) after that opening and commended the fighting spirit, so there is that I guess

On to the next day!

Eh, kill me now please.

Just kidding, I've had way worse than this. Still five rounds, everything is possible, just have to magically improve in zeitnot overnight and we good

I've just got an email from worldchess.com:

Quote:
US President Will Meet the Challenger to the World Championship Title (If You Want Him To!)

Dear Friends,

Chess fans from the US contacted us with an idea: to petition Donald Trump to invite Fabiano Caruana, the challenger to the Title, to the White House before the World Chess Championship Match that takes place in London in November.

They published a petition today in support of this proposal at the White House’ petitions page. According to the rules, if the petition is signed by over 100,000 in 30 days, the Administration will review and possibly grant it.

We are totally supporting the idea, not only because it would be a really strong sign of support for the sport and because it would create additional attention to the Match which is already creating headlines, but also because we feel that we actually can make it happen!

If we take all of the chess community combined, it surely will be more than a 100,000 members -- it’s millions!

If you would like to see Fabiano Caruana at the White House before the Championship Match in November, please support and sign the petition.

Please share it on Social Media: #CaruanaInTheWhiteHouse

Many thanks and hope to see you all in London in November!
The wording 'they published a petition' is hilarious because, at the time of writing, there's exactly 1 signature under the petition

I'm pretty sure they didn't ask Fabi for permission, and if the petition suddenly does get 100K votes, it will put him into an uncomfortable spot.

I seriously don't know what is happening/has happened to me. Quite at a loss (no pun intended) right now. Just gotta play out the remaining games and forget this thing as soon as possible

Nothing happened to you. You just beat a GM in brilliant style. Then you had a few off days. That's it.

Gotta play more often. Now you can play with nothing to lose and just try to have fun.

YKW,

You are the ****ing man and everyone should know it.

When you sit down across a GM he shakes like a chain link fence.

Now go out there and make 2p2 proud!

OMG I won a game, woot woot :] Feels good to end the longest losing streak (in classical games) of my life.

Even though this guy was only 2170, not so long ago he was at 2300, so no slouch. K-40 was not kind to him recently.

Good confidence boost going in to the last two rounds, we'll see what I can manage.

I would call this a FIESTA. But that's how I usually play, so I am happy to have let go of all inhibitions and just play creatively, for better or worse. Shoulda stick to who I am instead of trying to reinvent the wheel

Anyway, salvaging some rating points and beating an almost 2400 feels very good considering what's been going on before in this tournament!

Watching with the engine turned on it definitely looked like a FIESTA. One in which you were not doing that well, until you were stone-cold winning.

Well, I did sac a pawn AND two exchanges and had a ton of fun calculating crazy lines, so screw the engine :]
