It's moot now b/c he is going to lose .

Well, time to go 2-0!!

What title he ends up with doesn't really matter because he's so handsome that he's going to own the life hard regardless.

John Bartholomew lost today with White which is a huge setback. He needs 6.5 vs 2434 or 7 vs 2433 average, counting his first round opponent as 2200. So if I did the maths right he needs opponents rated 2493+ in the last two rounds for 1.5 to be enough. I think he'll get one of the top players on 5/7 in round 8 and he needs to win with Black - a draw and he'll slip down to play a lower rated player in round 9.

Young prodigy Francesco Rambaldi is playing vs a good friend of mine and he is taking the "Carlsen grind" to a new level.

I, for one, think this deserves a good kick in the balls after the game.

86... f5! is very clutch. 108... g4?! may have been premature. 136... e5? is a terrible blunder.

Aaaaaaand John gets a 2330... 2/2 should still be enough, but 1.5 definitely not.

Yeah. At least 2/2 is more likely with a 2330 opponent coming up, :/.

True, but I know his next opponent, he is a very dangerous player, pretty sure he has a couple IM norms. With John having black, it will be far from a walk in a park

Still better than having a must win against a GM though!

He's having a very good tournament regardless. I just hope its not too much of a bummer and he keeps setting aside time to improve and take shots if he doesn't quite get one this time.

Btw, very good job with Miss OOT so far this year. Really enjoying the write-ups and pace, pretty much the two things it seems are most under your control.

What are your thoughts on it so far and in general? Does it suck having to run the thing or does it enhance the experience at all?

Yeah it's less fun. The sh*tposters have always been annoying, since the first one I followed in 2011. But running Ms. OOT feels like actively enabling them.

Rei - No way to just ignore them? Like, I don't OOT too hard but you must know who you should actually read, can't you just ignore everyone else?

Oh man, John was somehow able to finagle a draw after being completely lost for many moves. It seems he needs to play (and beat) a 2555 player and it looks to me like that is very unlikely since there are only a couple of players sitting on 5.5 above that and the chances of being paired with one seems extremely unlikely at this point.

The discussion of the 'Miss Russian Community' contest (Google knows where) that's in the registration phase now is usually surprisingly civil, except for a few funny trolls here and there.

The difference is that contestants are real, earthly women (they undergo a passport check). The downside to some voters is that the contestants are mostly married or at least 'in a relationship' (their men are often the ones who introduced them to poker). The upside is that they know at least a bit about poker and some of them actually crush it.

Ooo, on the upside, perhaps he will be paired with Simon Williams! If it's not going to matter for a GM norm that would be pretty exciting!

Hikaru yet again is beaten by Magnus, this time in a 7-hour (!) game.

Pretty ridiculous/hilarious situation with the tie-breakers in London, and how it affects the Grand Chess Tour's final standings.

It's so great that Daniel King is a co-commentator

I'm following the tiebreak matches live. On chess24, they're denoted as 'London Chess Classic Round 10' for some reason. (There's also the Gustaffson + Svidler commentary, hidden under the right Union Jack flag under the stream window, or available as 'Svidler and Gustaffson on the Bundesliga and London'.)

But MVL vs Giri is the bloody Berlin Wall again

At least the tie-breaks add some excitement to the tournament and series.

Despite the occasional interesting game(s), I feel like the Grand Chess Tour failed to add a distinct flavour to each tournament.

And since we're dealing with the top players in the world, they're somewhat not (visibly) affected by the large prize pool.

Thanks for the heads up on Svidler/Jan — commentary/random discussions so much better.

Lol at Peter & Jan trolling the (very drawish) second game and discussing mainly movies and TV shows instead of its moves
