The main thing I'd like help with in this game is around moves 24/25. Especially 24...a5, it feels as if I made that move because I didn't know what my plan was. Was 24...Ra5 the way to go about targeting the queenside pawns?

From move 27 onwards White basically self-destructed.

Thanks in advance.
I like 13.-Ndf6 -- improving slightly and sort of putting White to the question, "What are you going to do now bro?"

I'm liking a move like 16.-Qg7, improving the queen (I want the rook on the e-file in direct opposition with those important White pieces, pretty much). The pawn can't be won easily: 16.-Qg7 17. exf5 exf5 18. Bxf5 Rde8 19. Be6 has to suck. 19.-Bxf3 20. gxf3 Qf6 21. d5 K(somewhere) 22. Kf1 Nc5 or something. And of course, 17. e5 just blunders material. Ahh, the joys of getting to move the pieces. You can analyze lines 20 moves deep.

I prefer 20.-h4.

I'm liking 24.-e5 25. Rce1 e4 26. Rxe4 Rxe4 27. Rxe4 Ra5 28. Re7 Rxa3 29. Rxd7 Ra1+ 30. Kh2 a5 31. Nf5 a4 32. Ne7 a3 33. Nd5 a2, if this isn't just flat-out idiotic. That's the idea -- actually have to check if it works.

Maybe more to the point for White is 32. Ne3 a3 (32.-Rc1 33. Nd5 is a clever fake-out by White!) 33. Nc2 Ra2 34. Nb4 35. Rxf2, and at best (or at worst for White), he's just returning the knight for the passed pawn with an equal-ish position, so this is probably a reverse freeroll of sorts and worth avoiding. Of course, if I spend >5 minutes on this variation, as I would in a game, I might find an improvement that secures an advantage for White.

24.-Ra5 immediately should be better. 25. Ra1 e5 (getting rid of that weak pawn should be our goal, I think). Which is why I like 25.-e5 in the game too. Let's just check 26. f4 gxf3 27. Nxf3 Rxg3 28. Nd4 -- okay, whatever, advanced knight, but it's doing diddlysquat at those "outposts", and we're up material and White's pawns suck and etc.

Cool game.

I'm a bit too lazy for the rest of the game but the very thematic move is 13...f5 and it looks extremely strong here. even harder for White to find a move. h5-h4 is a threat, Nd2 probably loses a pawn to nxn and g4.

+1; in cash poker, you can autorebuy and forget the mistake until the post-session review; in chess, you have to suffer from a mistake for the rest of the game.

QuantumCage tearing it up in Lisbon. 3.5/4 including 2/2 against GMs and looks like he has a shot to make it 3/3 here. though maybe a strong GM like Can thinks this is easy to save as White

Re: *** Chess Low Content Thread ***

White is in terrible shape after move 25: bye-bye (or, rather, welcome back), the exchange (the Bf4 threat is very strong). It would be hard for me to find that 22... Rxe5 is a sound sac. Thanks to RT for the alert!

ha I thought Rxe5 worked but only because he could follow it up with Bd4...that wouldn't have worked at all

looks crushing now indeed

3.-Bxf2+

Play can continue 3. Ne3 Bxe3 4. Bxe6+ Kh7* 5. Rxe3 Nh1 (just because I can put a knight on h1) 6. Kxh1 Rxf2 7. Rf3.

*If 4.-Kh8 then 6. Qh5 in that line.

FIDE K of 40 for you guys. A complete joke this rule is IMO, and with it we will soon see top guys climbing to 3000+ and far far away.

Also, that tournament in which he gains 170+ points fits the bill of fake tournaments perfectly, but of course no one will ever investigate it. Even after all the Alushta scandals Ukraine still does it, apparently Russia does it too. Just sad...

Re: *** Chess Low Content Thread ***

Actually, check out his other months too, it's just full of bull**** tournaments that either didn't happen at all or that were just used for this ELO boosting.

http://ratings.fide.com/individual_c...iod=2014-12-01

Another tournament of the same pedigree in Russia for another +100 and a tourney in Azerbaijan with everyone like a thousand points below him in strength. Scores 9/9, still gains 40 pts because of the new K. GJ FIDE!

Re: *** Chess Low Content Thread ***

Don't worry, the rating doesn't mean much, he yet has to earn IM/GM norms (which do require an adequately strong lineup of opponents), and that's gonna be tough, at least at first

Re: *** Chess Low Content Thread ***

Move Now, Think Later by Willy Hendriks, which I find eerily mirroring some of the patchwork theories on chess I've been formulating on my own recently. Led astray by hopes of a direct win, it took me a few minutes to even spot the idea, but I jumped up with glee when I did.

ETA: Yeah there's also

Spoiler:

Which is an important Black resource to actually spot, even though it's easy to refute. Since I overlooked that I can't give myself full credit, sadly.
