What sites do most of you play chess on? I played on yahoo and pogo years ago. Would like to play more frequently.

We have a team on chess.com, some play on ICC (chessclub.com) or FICS (www.freechess.org) or playchess.com (affiliated to Chessbase), there are also fans of lichess.org or chess24.com. Traffic-wise: chess.com >>> Playchess > Chess24 ~ ICC ~ FICS > Lichess. The home for bughouse / crazyhouse / wild variations is FICS (ICC also has them all - in fact FICS is based on the old ICC code - but it requires a paid subscription to play unlimited games, so buggers mainly stay away from it).

Lol, you can't rely on FIDE for such serious things. Your best bet is to hit up Rex Sinquefield and Maurice Ashley and persuade them to create PCA-2 and arrange your match with Caruana under its auspices.

Possibly cause we (chess enthusiasts) are quite spoiled with Hou Yifan's remarkable success. At 12 when Hou entered the fide lists she was already rated 2488. And of course Judit was already top 100 overall at twelve.

I'm not saying that Jen Yu is the next Hou Yifan - she's far from that - but I wanted to create an extended list of candidates - nothing is impossible, you never know I don't like it that she's not determined to become a pro, though.

Thank you. I signed up at chess.com and I've been playing every day. I like the five minute games. Most of my wins stem from my opponent running out of time - not as fun as checkmating someone.

At chess.com, there are enough seeks posted for games with an increment (where people are far less likely to lose on time), look them up on the seek graph instead of using autopairing.

It's insanely dumb that there isn't a simple way to turn off the engines on ChessDom and ChessBomb. I don't want to have to contort the browser window awkwardly or put a Post-it note on my monitor.

I haven't researched it, but it's likely possible to write an AutoHotKey script that recognises it when a CD/CB page is opened and puts an opaque rectangle over that area of the page.

Nice, I'd seen Kramnik on the KID during the live stream, hahah.

In this video, at around 17:00, Kramnik and Giri briefly talk about how they analyze candidate moves, with Kramnik stating that it's a mess in his head.


These nice post-game interviews reminded me of a time when Grischuk talked for quite a bit after his game, which was quite enjoyable. I then managed to find the video, it was after the last round of this year's Norway Chess. Grischuk talks from ~34:00 until about 1:20:00.

(BTW, Grischuk just won both Rapid and Blitz at the World Mind Games, quite impressive)

Grischuk has a great voice.

If you guys could help me with a couple of games from a correspondence tournament, I'd appreciate it (bear in mind that I'm a total fish):

Game 1
(I'm Black in this 17-move ugliness)

I probably lack the strategic knowledge to play this variation, and before I knew it my position was lost (I don't think I had played 7...Nf6 before).

Other than that last blunder with 17...f5?? (miscalculation), I'm a bit clueless; was 14...Bxe5 the worst mistake? Or maybe instead of 11...Nbd7 I should have developed the bishop and castled sooner? When is the right time to go ...c5?

Suggestions (another defence against 1.e4?) and improvements are welcome (variance: my opponent timed out).

I don't think I'd played this h6/g5 variation before, but my opponent made it easy for me and I think I had an easier game out of the opening. Maybe 16...f4 was better?

The main thing I'd like help with in this game is around moves 24/25. Especially 24...a5, it feels as if I made that move because I didn't know what my plan was. Was 24...Ra5 the way to go about targeting the queenside pawns?

From move 27 onwards White basically self-destructed.
