Having recently renewed a love for chess, and now finally having some financial means, it is time to buy a chess board. Although I do fine financially I still tend to make prudent financial decisions. Here is my conundrum.
I am currently debating the
world championship set, and a few House of Staunton sets. I have found a vendor in Canada who will sell the pieces for $375 CAD, but he is still looking into the board itself, but I suspect the set will cost me about $500 CAD. This is certainly the upper end of my budget for a chess set and I would be happy to spend a lot less. $250-300 shipped to Canada would be a nice sweet spot if I am getting the correct amount of value for my purchase, but I actually do like the championship chess set and if it is the set used to usher in the Carlsen era then it will provide some historical value.
I like the fierce knights style of sets, but I am really open to suggestions.
Thoughts? Recommendations? Is the World Championship set overpriced or worth getting as my first serious set?
