so ****ing tilted. I had my lichess bullet rating over 2000 then I go and lose 100 points to the same player who was playing terribly it was so clear that his chess understanding was nowhere near mine but because I kept hanging **** and falling to cheap tactics I went on a massive losing streak.

They had no idea about giving up squares or when it's good to exchange certain pieces in specific structures and they played the same way just regurgitating the same ideas regardless of how I was responding to the specific positions. Plus they thought 1.d4 e5 is good followed by h6 and g5 castle kingside without thinking. I'm just so mad he kept winning because I was playing so **** and not because he understood chess better or even equally

I'm glad to see that you've improved. Previously, you were totally unable to read past the b-word, now you can read and comprehend the text following it, albeit slowly. Keep exercising and soon the b-word will stop being an obstacle to your reading flow at all!

But yeah, it's a very tilty variant of the game, like heads-up hypers in poker. The edges are very thin.

Is there anything more satisfying than delivering a textbook smothered mate?

The answer is yes: Your opponent repeatedly screwing up the textbook smothered mate, allowing you to claim a draw.

Tonight was the first time I beat a CM in blitz, though he played like garbage (my play wasn't pretty either).

Here's the game.

I finally got to use this mating pattern that I learned years ago:

E4 e5
Nf3 d6
Nc3 bg4
Bc4 nc6
D4 nxd4
Nxe5 bxq
Bxf7+ ke7
Nd5++

🙂😛😎

I was crushing my bro in law and he requested a draw. I accepted. Chalk one up for peace.

Beat: I played the 12th highest rated 8 year old in the U.S. tonight, and barely won. He was wearing pajamas.

Brag: I beat Caruana twice, and H. Nakamura once when they were 8 and 9 respectively.

Variance: I probably will have to play the current top U.S. 8 year old on Monday.

Maybe I should go back into retirement.

OK here is the game. Time control is G/90 d5.

http://www.chessvideos.tv/chess-game....php?id=108816

Normally I'm not one to be psyched out by who my opponent is, but you have to admit there is some additional pressure playing an 8 year old wearing pajamas, in the form of embarrassment in the case of losing, or even drawing. Then he whips off 14 moves of the Seville variation of the Grunfeld, including 14.Kxf1, which is only chosen over 14.Qxc1 by people who know what they are doing. And now I'm wondering if he's been working with Karpov or something.

Then he plays the unusual 15.Bxd4, and I'm thinking OK, back to reality. He memorized a bunch of theory but will likely blunder within a move or two now that he's on his own, but it didn't happen that way. He gives back a pawn, and then another, but finds a dangerous attack.

I only win because he gets greedy with 31.Bxb6, not seeing the follow-up tactic. He could have forced a draw with 31.Bg5 Qg4 32.Bxf6+ Rxf6 33.Qe7 Rxf5 34.Qe8+ Kg7 35.Qd7+ Kf6 36. Qd8+ Kg7 37.Qd7+ etc.

Sometimes I wonder if I should vary early when young players are so booked up, but I tend to rely on experience. After all, I've been playing this line 3 times longer than he has been alive.

strong kids are good at two things:

- tactics and theory

play as boring as possible and win in an endgame. kids are terrible at endgames

What 8 year old plays the Seville instead of just going main line? I thought that was for the olds.

I only managed to draw the top rated U.S. 8 year old, in an 85 move game that went way past his bedtime.

I'm in this same event the kid's mom literally asked me in the skittles room to check on this game and judge if he was 'lost' so she could tell him to resign so he wouldn't be up to late for school. I should have helped Tim out and told her his position was dead
