Recently, I have been playing checkers at www.yahoo.com.

I used to play checkers on the Internet via the Internet Checkers facility on Windows XP.

Well, the standard of play here is much higher. Yahoo has a ratings system. It also has a Force Forfeiture button so those that are not willing to play out losing games are punished not only for their poor play but also their poor manners.

Hey I'm a bit of a checkers savant. Never really studied it but I have beaten people who are pretty good at the game.

If you wanna play me sometime just hit me up with a PM.

you aren't expected to resign losing positions? I don't really get what the button does.

At yahoo games in general people frequently just *abandon* games that don't go their way.

I am going to refuse this offer outright because...it would end up embarrassing for one of us. Which one? Who knows?

Besides, there is plenty of opposition out there.

Come across some low life today.

Repeated offering draws in lost positions hoping you click "yes" not "no" as the buttons are very closely placed.

Also, if you sit at a table then you are black/white for however many games you play on it. The colours do not get changed with each game.

I merely used a polite formulation to say that I cannot be bothered to PM you and arrange to play when I could just play.

I'm surprised about all the checkers talk here (not in a bad way).

I'd have thought people would be talking about backgammon more than checkers or Go.

The checkers is mostly being posted by one person, as is the Go.

I had a dreadful experience at Yahoo. I played a provisional who turned out to be a good player. He won the first and I lost a massive 26 points. I won the second but he was such a bad sport he took all the five minutes for each move when it was obvious he had lost and the match took 2 hours 15 minutes or so. I learned my lesson. Set a time control and don't sit at a table without one.
