Title shamelessly stolen from PyramidScheme.

Here is the official website: http://www.britishchess2010.com/index.htm. The main event is an 11 round swiss tourney between 26 July - 6 August, and the junior championships and some graded tournaments run as well.

GM Michael Adams (2706) is a huge favourite rated over 150 points over his nearest rival.

Pre-tourney Predictions:

Adams will win by a clear point with 9/11.

Felix Ynojosa-Aponte (Junior 2224) will beat a GM.

GM Simon Williams (2511) will have a bad tournament. (random speculation)

I was struck by how few up and comers there appeared to be in the field.

Michael Adams is over the magic age of 36. I was surprised not to see David Howell for example.

But as the field now stands would predict Adams will win.

hoping to see a good performance from Irish youngster Ryan Griffiths, it's only a matter of time before he starts picking up IM norms imo.

Unbelievable blunder by GM Keith Arkell (white) vs IM Jack Rudd in round 1. He literally just left his queen hanging (see last move)! Haven't seen anything like it before.

Wow, that was bad!
It is not even as if the K move was part of a long sequence and he forgot to play the first move.

looks like you way underestimated Adams! He's currently 1.5 points clear on 7.5/8 and playing the only player on 6/8, and has already played the other top 3 seeds. He's likely to finish 2.5 or 3 points clear of the field imo, which is kind of ridiculous in an 11 round Swiss.

Howell was playing in Biel, which was finishing around the same time the BCC was starting. I suspect his appearance fee was around what first place would get at the BCC (the official site of the latter says first place = £5000).
