In round one of a double round-robin. The field and pre-tournament live ratings are:

Vachier-Lagrave (2766)
Giri (2750)
Wojtaszek (2733)
Harikrishna (2726)
Motylev (2698)
Hou (2647.1)

It looks like on average Hou will lose about 3.6 ELO points for each loss, gain 1.4 for each draw, and gain 6.4 per win. So my rough chicken scratch says she'd need to score 9/10 to get herself over 2700 in this event. No problem imo. She's perfect so far!

I'm guessing Polgar hasn't been within 25 points of losing the #1 spot on the women rankings for some time?

Hou has a great position against Wojtaszek as White:

Her last move was 21. Qa4; both players have ~20 minutes on the clock.

Hou didn't convert the above position into a win, but after drawing MVL today she's still on an even score, and still tied for second, with two rounds to play. Also her live rating is within 17 points of Polgar for world's #1 woman.

Also this tournament just got interesting! We've focused on Hou in this thread, and ignored what had been sheer dominance by MVL as he compiled a +3 score and 1 1/2 point lead through eight rounds.

Suddenly his lead no longer looks insurmountable, after he lost today while Hou and Wojtaszek both won. Now MVL enters the last round only half a point ahead of those two, and first place isn't decided yet!
