I played a game yesterday on a "War on Terror" chess set, which was great. As well as Saddams and Bushes and Osamas etc, there were 747s for the white knights and two sets of twin towers (quadruplet towers?) as the black rooks.

My new favorite chess set.

In Germany they made this, a truly gigantic chess board measuring 400 x 400 metres (1200 x 1200 feet) on its side.

even worse if you played h8=Q and then realised the queen you wanted to promote to was over on the left hand side of the board.

I hate to say it, but a wireless bluetooth DGT chess set at 950 bucks/pop may be the most balling I've seen -

while I wouldn't go this route, I will admit to really wanting one at one point and time for teh cool factor and playing in Fritz - now I may just buy a live chess computer with live pieces - kinda would like to play the Tandy 1850 again at some point

I played on a DGT set once at the Vienna Open and i must say i didn't really like it. The pieces were HUGE compared to the square size, it looked cluttered. Also, this boards are thick, and i'm not exactly tall when sitting, so i had a bad viewing angle too.

one problem is that it might make cheating easier. no more need for the cheaters to go to the bathroom to submit their moves.

At the World Open there were a few incidents. Basically one guy would play, and every few moves he would go to the bathroom to relay the position to his partner. His partner was sitting with a computer somewhere, supposedly in a car close to the building, and would relay the computer's suggestion back to the play thru a radio transmitter.

What I meant was that in the future, when technology advances and bluetooth boards are more widespread, then the cheater won't have to do anything to relay the moves to his partner because the board would do so automatically. All he would need to do is listen in his radio ear piece for the suggestions.

I'll take a picture of this chess set i bought in Mexico for $400. It's at my home in International Falls but I'll take a pic of it when I get back. The board is probably 4x4 and the king is atleast ten inches tall.
