So, finally, here we are

The method to determine colors used by HipHopTR seemed fair and simple to me, so I will let smilingbill choose a number between 1 & 10:

Spoiler:
1 through 5 = smilingbill got White, 6 through 10 = smilingbill got black.

Spoiler:
I would choose 5.5

All the best to the participants!

Spoiler:
1, guess I'm supposed to read a spoiler now good luck anonymous kid, you're gonna need it PRO TIP for getting White: using a random dice generator such as http://javascript.internet.com/games/dice-roller.html to roll

Yes. And I don't think that needs a spoiler.

Haha. I didn't think so either, didn't want to break any Malkovich game rules.

Really hoping for not a standard QGD here. Exchange would be okay I guess, catalan could be interesting. Transposing to the semi-slav here would be excellent. These are all purely selfish wishes though as there's certainily notohing wrong with the orthodox/lasker/tartakower

Spoiler:
Move order trick. This way avoids exchange slav but it also doesn't allow for any bishop developing lines (Bf5, Bg4 with Nf6 instead of e6).

4. Nc3

Spoiler:
4.Bg5 would also have been interesting, but I'll rather play this and get a chance to take a good look at the lines Schandorff is recommending in Play the Queen's Gambit; 5.Bg5 against the Semi-Slav and I think it was 5.e3 b5 6.a4 Bb4 7.Bd2 a5 8.Rb1 against the Noteboom. Think he's more likely to play 4.-Nf6 instead of 4.-dxc4 though, some people like this move order to avoid a) the exchange Slav and b) the Catalan

Looks like you'll get that wish. Although I hope the game doesn't go too deep into Botvinnik Variation theory...I want to be able to understand at least some of the moves!

4.Bg5 would have been interesting for me to see, as I'm more familiar with those lines from White's point of view.

Yeah, that or the Moscow gambit which isn't any better. I do use Schandorff's book so I'm interested to see it play out.

Spoiler:
It is very hard to play when you have no idea who your opponent is or how he plays. I am hoping for 5. a4 then I'll choose between Noteboom or tranposing into QGA with c5. Hopefully, he doesn't know them as much as the mainlines.

I'm anxious to hear bill's thoughts on the noteboom and why he allowed it. Not the sort of line I think most players would like to play as white, especially not against a stronger player! I wonder if he's planning one of the sidelines like 6. e4 b5 7. Bg5

My repertoire loosely follows Palliser's book -- at least for 1. d4 d5 lines. Maybe I'll "upgrade" to some of the Nc3 lines one day.

OK, so he wasn't bluffing with the Noteboom. No problem, as the Schandorff recommended line looks fun. 5.e3 b5 6.a4 Bb4 and 5.a4 Bb4 6.e3 b5 transpose here. 5.e4 is also possible, just pretending nothing much happened and continuing to develop with Be2 and 0-0.

Earlier he posted that he wanted to try out Schandorff's recommendation with 8. Rb1. I've played it several times in blitz and have scored extremely well with it (including beating one IM), but maybe black players have had enough time to figure out better lines.

smilingbill, during my game vs Hackdeath someone said that it is easier for spectators to follow if the ending diagrams are from the perspective of the side that is to move next, so would be awesome if you could flip your future diagrams to be from black's perspective Ty!
