i tried this a couple of times:

1. e4 e5 2. Ne2?

i already found 2 traps:

2 ... Nf6 3. f4 exf4 4. Nxf4 Nxe4 5. Qe2

and the Knight is doomed.

2 ... Bc5 3. d4 exd4 4. Nxd4 Nc4 5. Be2 Qf6 6. NB6? Bxe3 7. fxe3 Qxb2 7. Nc3

and if the black player doesnt move 7. ... Qb5 you just play 8. Rb1 and the Queen is gone.

Right, it's surprisingly playable

Also, it's worth noting that 2. Ne2 (or 2. Nc3 and 3. Nge2) is also one of the best responses to 1. e4 c5 (called the Chameleon System). White can either go for an Open Sicilian or for a 4. g3 closed one (with the fianchettoed bishop being more active than with the knight on f3).
