Hi everyone,

i figured out it was best to open a new thread for this.

I created the tournament on chess.com and invited everyone from the 2+2 team on chess.com. If someone is not in this team and wants to participate, PM me please with your chess.com account name and you'll get an invitation.

Current rules are 3 days time / move, vacation allowed. 6 players per group, 2 advance. If the number of advancing players is too high compared to group size, we risk having an additional round which would lead to the tournament taking longer than one year, which i would prefer to avoid.

I will start the tournament on November 27th. That should be enough time to sort out issues with wrong or missing invitations.

We play by chess.com rules, which means that engine use is strictly forbidden! Opening books and databases which don't contain computer evaluations are allowed. Endgame tablebases are not allowed.

Feel free to post any questions, recommendations or complaints here. After the start of the tournament, discussion and chat about finished games will also go here.

I hope for a nice turnout and lots of fun. Last time was a blast, let's get more people on board this time!

Wait, I see, one has to be invited. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Is it OK if I play even though I played one game and my chess.com rating is nowhere close to my real rating? If so, send me an invitation. My name on chess.com is the same as here.

Rating won't matter for the tournament, it's not like there are going to be different brackets.

well the seeding goes according to rating. If 24 participate, the groups will be:

1-5-9-13-17-21
2-6-10-14-18-22
3-7-11-15-19-23
4-8-12-16-20-24.

But i don't mind if some ratings are a bit off. I wouldn't like sandbagging but i don't see how low ratings could be used for an advantage.

It's a shame the system is lopsided as it is. Group 1 is arbitrarily ranked higher than everyone else. This is each group's avg. rank:

1: 11
2: 12
3: 13
4: 14

But I guess it really doesn't matter too much since this is a competition for fun, right?

well it's the way chess.com does it. It means stronger players get slightly stronger opposition, which doesn't have to be a bad thing. Swiss system chess tournaments are seeded in a similar way, with 20 participants in one point group 1 plays 11, 2 plays 12 and so on.

Oh yeah, so I am.

I should warn you. Several months off of chess seems to have been much more effective than hours of intense study. I've been crushing it.
