Fabi looks as uncomfortable as I've seen him the whole match including game 1, usually has a great poker face and you can tell he's struggling here. (move 13-14/game 9 for those who don't watch this live)

Magnus was clearly annoyed after the game but I think he and his team will realize today was mission accomplished getting a game closer to the tiebreak. Fabiano has to win one of the last three games imo, usually the last game is very conservative so tomorrow is crucial.

This narrative that Magnus is just trying to cruise to tiebreaks which he'll win 100% of the time is getting a bit silly by now.

Magnus has never struck me as the type who plays for draws, even knowing that he has an advantage in tiebreaks. I guarantee he's unhappy that he hasn't converted a win yet.

The guy is insanely competitive, of course he isn't happy about the draws. Still doesn't change the fact he's closer to a game type where he will have a bigger edge so today has to be a net positive imo even with two black games in the final 3/tiebreaks having higher variance.

I now predict this goes down to the Armageddon game where Fabiano gets (the choice of which he chooses) White and the extra time, with him failing to win the game.

MAGNUS WILL RETAIN THE TITLE.

hopefully another open sicilian today, i think magnus might crack today if fabi gets a similar good position as in game 8.
the way the match has gone, it feels more likely that fabi is getting somewhere in the classical time control. just a question if magnus match experience lets him control his nervs better, chesswise he has not been better.

looking forward to the sick c24 broadcasting crew w svidler, giri and grischuk.

10.b4 isn't even in the lichess opening explorer. I'm not sure how many of the bagillion games played on that server made it into the explorer (I've been meaning to download the entire lichess database containing 481M games. Note to self to do that), but usually if a move is not in my database, it's usually at least in the lichess explorer.

seems like some good computer prep by team caruana again. sesse gives a half pawn edge to white, while weaker engines seem to think black equalized already.

Magnus was well prepared for today, playing basically in line with stockfish. If you play the game out from here, the lack of Fabi's queen being involved has the potential to really hurt him.
