Hard to see svidler coming back now, whatever the ELO simulations say. He must be totally dispirited.

That game was absolutely ridiculous and Svidler deserves to lose if he plays like that.

Perhaps Svidler has a fear of success and he's self sabotaging himself without him being aware of it.

In fact if you watch his interviews, you may even think that he is some sort of simpleton who only excels at one thing in life, chess.
I can't believe you continue to post stuff like this.

He can only win as underdog. Clear sublimation of id by ego.

Elite chess is kind of boring with all the draws. They should do something about that.

Probably ban the Berlin defense? Good idea to run some simulations on that, .

I know only 4 were classical games, but has this happened before - 10 straight decisive games in match play?

Anderssen - Steinitz (1866) The match finished 8-6 to Steinitz with no draws

Steinitz vs Chigorin (1889) 16 straight decisive results with a draw in game 17

Had draws even been invented back then?

Well that was utterly absurd. I -- with all of 1200 rating points -- end up yelling at myself when I make blunders as egregious as Svidler dropping that rook. I can't even fathom how he felt. Though the visual speaks volumes:

It's obvious that after a month of nonstop chess, the players aren't at full strength. They have to be fried out of their minds. So I'd like to take the opportunity to retroactively LOL at FIDE for ever pretending that an event like this was viable to determine the world champion.

Isn't Carlsen keen for something similar to this to decide world champ? He must be getting pretty bored up on his perch b/c, yeah, that'd be insane if this were a world champ format instead.

Svidler deserved to lose. He had more than enough winning positions to win the event and spoiled every single one of them. It isn't enough to be a good player, you also need to play well.

It's hard to say svidler lacks the mental strength to win this event when (a) he won the 6 important matches - the final was "just" for the title and 40k (b) he's won this event before in the exact same format.
