The position after 13. Rc1 was reached in Ehlvest-Ramirez in 2009. That game went 1-0. Considering Ramirez is one of the backup commentators they have for this event, I'd really like them to bring him in to discuss the position. I'm sure he's analyzed it more than a little bit since that loss.

The stats for all the 10 Chesstempo games in this position are however +4 =5 -1, or 65% for White, but one of the White wins is 2000 vs 1794. So it's essentially 6.5/9 in CM+ play, or 61%, which sounds realistic.

After 13... Nd7 14. Be2, the score in the DB is +1 =1 -1 (with opponents being rated pretty close in all the 3 games).

If anyone can draw this position that looks really promising for white it's carlsen.

The thing is I don't see where he will get counterplay and cara has such a easy position to play and he is in exceptional form.

This will be a real grind for Magnus

Well, the only Chesstempo game with this position (after 14... Nb6, which looks like the best) was actually drawn, and mind that White was 100 points higher rated than Black there. It was a ton of sweat for Black, though. White's attack was looking so terrifying in the middlegame.

The 18. g4! looks like a historic move. The game is becoming merry, with White leaving the king in the centre and going all-in for the throat

So yesterday Carlsen said that "You can just play normal against Caruana". Anyone want to describe his play in today's game as "normal"?

The biggest remaining intrigue of the tourney to me is whether Topalov will close the 4.8 points gap from Aronian and become #3 on the rating list. It's quite probable as Levon is having a terrible tourney (hoping that his performance will be hidden behind Caruana's streak, but we see everything ), is close to getting ground by Magnus now, while Veselin is slightly better (with Black!) vs MVL.

Caruana is human after all

Carlsen-Aronian is an easy draw, right? Not sure if there are even any tricks

He might still be an engine, but installed on a slow computer and failing in time trouble.

Looks like 40. Rxg6+ seals up the win?

It was the time control move and he had about 1 min I think on the clock at this point.

Even patzers don't play Rcd1 where he did.

Well, they think that the c4 pawn would hang, but they're right to an extent. Fab saw that it couldn't be taken immediately because of Qd5+, but it's not good to rely on such an ephemeral tactic that disappeared as soon as Magnus played Kh8.

There was no need to spend tons of minutes on the h4, g4 idea when he would end up blowing the hard-earned advantage by failing to make fairly simple but effective moves in time trouble.

What a pathetic way to end the greatest winning streak in history.

He's still locked down a 3042 performance rating, even with a last-round loss. I think that's already a record for a tournament of a decent length, maybe any tournament.

Draw gets 3098, win gets 3168.

According to this article:

15. Highest performance rating
Bobby Fischer had the highest performance rating of 3080 when he defeated Bent Larsen by the score of 6-0.

I really wanna see a Caruana-Carlsen match.

Carlsen probably doesn't.

+1.

Dynasty, no performance rating can be calculated for absolute scores like 6-0 (according to FIDE rating regulations paragraph 8.1, 'For a zero or 1.0 score dp is necessarily indeterminate but is shown notionally as 800', which suffices for title norm purposes), so Fischer's run can't be compared to Caruana's.

They're playing an All-Star game right now (LIVE):

http://new.livestream.com/chess24/sinquefieldcup

The players are grouped into two opposing teams, and each player is paired against a person from the opposing team (e.g., Carlsen vs. Kasparov, Aronian vs. Caruana, and etc.). Each player takes turns making moves (against players from the opposing team). It's really exciting chess! They just finished a round of Rapid, and they're about to start a round of Blitz.

This event is pretty awesome. Think it would be more fun with slightly stronger "weak" players of course, but can't have anything.

Cool to see Kasparov back, playing with the kids.
