The 2014 Lithuanian Championship started earlier today, and our very own YKW is playing in it. This thread is to help of keep track of the results, to offer YKW some encouragement, and to let him know that we think he's a BAMF.

Here is the link to the Chess-Results Server, but if anyone could find the PGN files of the games, that would be great.

Well, that started as expected. I was just too busy in real life to prepare properly for this event and now I am going to get stomped. But such is life, I don't mind Will try to play at least somewhat interesting chess if possible (didn't happen in R1).

TY for support

live games (starting 4pm LTU time usually) are here, there are also PGNs

Round 2 is underway. Interesting opening in YKW's game so far. Do any of y'all play this variation against the Queen's Indian? I'm not familiar with this line. e4 feels early, but YKW is playing very quickly so I'm assuming he prepped this. White has a nice lead in development, curious to see what he does with it.

25 min clock advantage for YKW as I type this. Not too bad for move 14

That's a frustratingly difficult ending in time trouble OTB.

Well played opening and middlegame, it was fun to watch.

Change the thread title so people know YouKnowWho is playing in the event.

Finally a win! Been playing horrible chess in this event, but today was OK. Only need 3/3 to get an IM norm and all remaining opponents are GMs. Sounds doable

When did you start playing 1...Nc6?

Hahah.

Beating an IM as black while playing an opening for the first time...not a bad day.

Today, YKW has the white pieces against GM Sulskis Sarunas, who is currently on fire and leading with 5.5/6 (1.5 points ahead of the field). The game starts at 16:00 Lithuanian time.

Looks like YKW has the slightly preferrable position. Symmetrical pawn structure but white has the two bishops. I'm looking forward to seeing how this one goes because I'm always interested in seeing how strong players handle quieter positions.

12. Be2 looks good here.

The response Ne4 looks annoying at first, but it loses material.

Indeed. I'm curious to see what black does about the c8 bishop. Playing e5 is natural, but it loses material also. b6 looks like it would be time consuming and weaken the light squares too much.

12...Qe4 is a good move. GMs are good players

This one sure didn't stay quiet. Very interesting game. That bishop on c3 is awesome.

How to ****ing miss Rh4-Rh2 perpetual I have no idea. Disgustingly atrociously bad.

When they say "fortune favors the brave" they are full of ****. In game 3 I declined a draw twice, lost. In this one I had multiple chances to go to an absolutely drawn endgame, didn't, lost. After the game he implied that he would have just offered a draw. Somewhere during my development someone forgot to tell me that a draw is not a bad result (vs 2530GM no less..).

Oh well, ****ty tournaments happen. Maybe next time my draw declination will result in some wins

Very nice finish indeed, and an entertaining game.

YKW, any chance we can bribe you into giving us a brief tournament report?
