The 2012 London Chess Classic starts tomorrow and should be a fantastic event. I'm excited to watch it. Here's the link to the official website.

http://www.londonchessclassic.com/

It's a 9-round round robin format, where each player plays 8 games and has 1 bye in which they assist in the commentary. Time control is 2 hours for 40 moves, plus 1 hour for 20 moves, followed by 15 mins + a 30 second increment for the remainder of the game. Here's the lineup.

Magnus Carlsen
Levon Aronian
Viswanathan Anand
Vladimir Kramnik
Hikaru Nakamura
Judit Polgar (excited to see her play in a long time control event)
Luke McShane
Gawain Jones

Very much looking forward to this one.

One game to rule them all! (and piss off Garry Kasparov!)

...let the sweat begin.

Is it wrong that I'm already sick of Nigel Short?

The only consistent coverage I can find is the live game player at 2700chess.com.

Magnus looks like he's dead-even with McShane, but he's way up on time.

FLAG this fool and let's go to Sizzler.

Kasparov had 2855 as his best live-rating, so not quite there yet.

Haven't followed a tournament for quite some time (I guess Wijk in January was the last) but I think I will follow this one. I'd really like to see Michael Adams to do good, he's one of my favourite players. If he ever writes a book about his best games, I'll buy it instantly.

Also good to see Kramnik and Anand again.

Fun fact: The current Grand Prix tournament in Tashkent is on average 120 Elo points and 4 categories higher rated than London...

London average: 2752
Tashkent average: 2747

Does not compute.

Sorry, I just looked without thinking at this table, published at chessbase.de (Link):

It says the average rating is 2631 which is obviously wrong. My bad. I should have noticed that, of course.

Wow, Kudos to Jones for sacking his Queen against Carlsen today. Looks like pretty good compensation too.

Seems like Jones just folded under the pressure caused by the scary h3+Qe3, I doubt the sac is correct enough

Thrilling effort today by Jones, but he just ended up dragging a great white shark into the water.

Carlsen's 3-0 so far is fantastic, and the dispute over the rating record is now completely over. 2857.4. Holy ****.

Once or twice, it's luck. Again and again, it's skill.
