Russia lost to Hungary. Likely a big uproar coming about how Kramnik wasn't playing..

Garry should teach him some openings.

Fressinet - Shengelia and Kramnik - Navara were enjoyable games.

Chucky is rocking the Olympiad.

5/5, including wins against Beliavsky, Sokolov and Leko. The win against Sokolov was especially nice.

Not sure, can't find the regulations whether you have to be at your board when the game starts. That or mobile phone ringing seem the most likely ones. (or he got sick just before the game start)

I was more impressed by Ivanchuk - Leko. It's not often you see a top GM get beaten so smoothly. Sokolov - Ivanchuk was just an opening disaster for White.

Looking forward to Kramnik - Ivanchuk tomorrow.

and he lost. Nice game by Shak. Looks like Elianov bailed the Ukraine out though i can't figure out what's going on in the Efimenko-Safari endgame. Anyone with a clue who's better there?

It looked drawish when I looked at it, but the site seems to be down now, so I can't check it again.

Holy ****. Paraphrased commentary on ICC:

Ronen: What goes on with someone like Navara where he's 2720 then 2650 and now he's back?
Yermo: Have you seen a picture of him? He's like a special education kid. Look at his eyes. He's autistic or something. I work in schools. I recognize this. I won't take anything away from him. It's amazing that he's done so well.

WTF? Is it known that Navara has some disability or did Yermo really just hypothesize that out of nowhere???

Well I am not sure if it's officially announced anywhere that he has some sort of disorder, but after seeing him live several times I am close to 100% sure that he does. I am not sure what it is but there is nothing wrong with that as he seems to be a very intelligent and friendly person anyway. He just doesn't really fit the regular description of "normal" person by our society standards, but who cares?

Yes, he does have some mental disorder. I don't know what it is but I've heard that playing chess is part of his treatment. Sounds weird to me, but that's what I've heard about him.

If I remember correctly NIC has also wrote about Navara being autistic.

Yeah probably autism. I remember a story a few years back about Navara during Corus. He would be walking around looking at the games on other boards. If one of the players got up he would take a ´polite posture´ and bow and nod to them in an odd way. But whatever, congrats to him, he´s a great player and seems a good guy.
