What is this forum's reaction to the last two articles?

The Weaker Minor Piece

Breakthrough in the Endgame

These articles are primarily for this forum's users. So, if the series is to be continued, I need feedback.

It's clear that Pierre admires technical play in chess, but while the articles were instructive I personally found them rather dull. Need more interesting games with tactics imo.

The articles are good but not sure if the choice of audience is right. Would be happier to see articles with a more popularizing touch.

I think the articles are okay but you could question the need for 2+2 to publish chess tecnical stuff in a kind of vacuum. Personally I would prefer to read more story-oriented stuff, with maybe somehow a poker angle. For those wanting to improve at chess the level shlould be lower, more geared towards beginners or advanced beginners wanting material and info on how to improve. I doubt stronger players will use or need 2+2 for their chess stuff. I guess like almost all chess (and poker) players I love reading about the game and as such the effort the magazine is making is much appreciated.

Are you serious? That's a really affordable price; I'm going to have to get in touch with Larry Christiansen.

He's probably going to be more like $65-80 per hour.

looks good, and perhaps more accessible than some of the previous ones which is a good thing imo.

Really dull, inappropriate topic for a poker magazine, this is better placed in an endgame book for serious chess players. All of his articles have overlooked what chess is mainly about for players below 2400 (the audience), and have focussed on deep strategical ideas that are neither entertaining nor useful for the majority of players.

really? "get your pieces active in the endgame" is probably in the top 10 things I would teach players rated 1000-1400, and this is a good, simple, example of exactly that.

A friend at work is here rated 2091 (PB: 2184). We will write it together. Thanks.

I have no idea if this any good but I love to write.

Honestly it would make more sense to ask the general two-plus-two community for their take on these chess articles. The users of the chess forum will probably have a different opinion. I guess most of the readers of this forum probably check sites like chessbase, chesscafe, etc., so I can't see that there is any particular demand among us for a chess section in the two-plus-two magazine. It's certainly not the reason that I read it, although the chess articles so far have been quite good.

I'm not sure that these articles really fill any niche in a magazine devoted mainly to poker/ gambling strategy.

@John_Douglas: I am not sure the audience for the article is the 2+2 community; in my mind (and I could be wrong!) it is the Chess sub-forum, which is IMO why Dynasty is asking for feedback here.

So, I am curious...

For those reading the articles, what are your expectations? Do you want to be entertained, do you want to learn, or what else do you want?

What's your rating? What ELO rating do you think the articles should target? 1000? 1500? 2000?

And finally are these articles giving AC an unfair advantage in his prop bet vs HL? --jk!

The chess articles are primarily for this forum. It's like a stud/8 article for the stud forum.

The idea for a chess article is great, but the material so far is VERY complicated. I'm rated 2070 and if it's hard for me I wonder how casual players (1500-1600) feel.

This isn't a Dvoretsky book or New In Chess here. Maybe Pierre can make it more fun... challenging for lower rated players and a way to burn 10-15 minutes for advanced players. Maybe like Ronen Har-Zvi's "blunderland" shows on the ICC, which is just 30 minutes of compiled blunders by strong GM's, but very funny.

Or some fun gambit (Chocrane-style?). Or an interview with a chess poker player like Alexander Grischuck.

Seems like your forum audience wants articles more aimed at entertainment/the general public I don't mind if the content is of high technical difficulty, but it should have some kind of an entertainment angle.

Well like I said, I don't have anything negative to say about the articles themselves, but it's not the reason I read 2+2. I was just speaking in general, that if there is a chess column in 2+2, then it should be something that the general 2+2 audience will find interesting, not just the readers of the chess forum. Just like if there is a poker column in a newspaper, it is geared towards people who don't know much about poker, not a detailed analysis of proper 3-betting ranges in PLO8.
