M07 - Jolle 1-0

White held a small plus for about twenty moves, after which the center opened up in his favor. He converted fairly easiliy, involving an ending with me walking into a mating net.

Lost my match in a ridiculously tilting game...

I'm dropping out of the tourn though, trying to schedule the games is too annoying

How to cc moves from fics since that was requested? Don't really want to, game was so ugly.

Scheduling is not as annoying as being a poor loser and quitting after a rd 1 loss. I concur that the game wasn't the prettiest ever though

Here's a link to the game for those who are interested: http://ficsgames.com/cgi-bin/show.cg...01;action=show

Scheduling an definitely be tough at times, particularly over a weekend like this where people are particularly likely to be away. I'm sorry to hear it was tough, but glad you guys got your game played.

Vassil, I'm sorry to hear you're withrawing, but it's your decision of course. Hopefully you'll join us next time around

Perhaps it is an idea to have people list their time zone when they sign up for a tourney, and putting that information in the opening post. It could save a day or so on scheduling a game.

fwiw, so am I. We were both on vacation, which made things worse, of course. I think the other rounds will be better.

I´ll bite the dust in round 1 -+ for not showing once and being unable to schedule a reprise in time.

Sorry everyone for the delay. Nezh and hoyasaxa both were unable to make arrangements to play this week and will be taking forfeit losses. Since Vassil has withdrawn from the tournament, someone else needs a bye. This week it will be Sholar, by his own request, for half a point. The remaining 18 players are paired as follows:

EDIT:

Good luck everyone!

BoeBoeJim, there is a mistake in the pairing.

I have 1 pt and Tomukas 0 pt, the result of our game was
tomukas 0 1 confirmedtroll.

Thanks

Ugh, my mistake, thanks for catching this now! New pairings coming in a moment, I'll try to alter as little as possible, but it throws some of the color pairings off so let's see what I can do...

Edit: I managed to keep things the same for 10 players, but mc4chess, smilingbill, confirmedtroll, Duke0424, jewbinson, Tomukas, Nezh, and ganstaman now have new opponents. Here are the new, correct (I hope?) pairings (I also edited the previous post, so these are identical to what is NOW listed two posts previously):

Deadline?

Deadline is next Sunday night at midnight PST.

Edit: Don't know why I didn't include that in the previous post, you shouldn't have had to ask. I'm really slipping this week. I blame it on school; finals are next week so everything from the term is due in the next few days. I'll be back to my normal thorough accurate self after that, I would hope...

Don't worry about it. You guys do a good job of running this place. You're allowed to slip up occasionally.

fairly happy with the way i played, couldn't figure any way to take advantage of 10.Bb2 so went with the backup plan of returning to the position usually arising after 10.d3 a5 11.b5 Nd4

I was not familiar enough with opening line and made too many innaccuracies, and played too slow. Rbe1 i played too quickly and just pretty much just loses immediately to rxe2, I saw it pretty much right after I moved and it was so brutal waiting for your move lol. I think I need to try e4 or something although position already slightly unfavorable and down time. gg

I don't understand 18. Bh3. After 18. Bxd5 Qxd5 white seems ok

lol the game's broken now I think White is OK, maybe a little worse after both. It's much easier to play as Black though, since he has concrete ideas (piling up on the e2-pawn/attacking the king/taking the c-file in case White trades queens too early) while W is struggling to find something constructive while making sure he doesn't give Black too much of a free hand on the kingside. Probably White has to try and move his e-pawn at some point but in practice its hard to assess whether it will weaken too much.

Not much to say here. He's much better than me to begin with. All looked like good enough theory up through 10. Be3, but then I wasn't sure what to do. I probably should have moved over to the queenside, but I don't get KIDs like this often, so I was still staring at the kingside.

And of course, Nezh didn't seem to even let me set traps that had a chance of working.

Why 26. gxf4? Looks way too risky, White is totally winning but this may give Black some chances to play for a swindle. Even as late as move 30 he has 30...Qe4 and it's hard for White to get away with only losing one pawn imo.

Agreed risky...but couldn´t see a concrete refutation and thought opening the g-file I could sorta neutralize any initiative against my King by also occupying and maybe double rooks.

Yeah, I missed 30...Qe4 during the game

By the way, does anyone consider it poor form or disrespectful to play on in a losing position trying for a swindle? When I reach the point in a game where I'm nearly fully certain that my opponent will win if I just continue making 'normal' moves, I tend to switch into 'swindle mode.' I try to make moves that could create some complication or hidden trap instead of simply what the chess engine would score as best.

I don't intend any disrespect, but I do enjoy looking for such odd tactics. I'm just not sure how others see it. I know that from the other end, I very much enjoy playing totally won positions and am a little saddened when my opponents resign, but not everyone's the same.
