Let me help you since you appear to be rude AND stupid.

Well, it really is unfair on 2theleft if he has tried to make contact, and loveinvain hasn't. However, if what loveinvain said is all true, then he deserves at least an apology imo

Protip: When the Tournament Director says "I will tolerate no further discussion regarding that decision", it means the Tournament Director KNOWS the decision is potentially controversial and that someone will probably disagree with it. If you are that person who disagrees, your choices are to decide you don't want to play in the tournament, or to shut up about it. If you want to withdraw from the tournament because of this decision, you are welcome to. If you say even one more word that indicates you disagree with the decision, I will consider that the same as you saying you want to withdraw.

If you want to keep playing, just don't respond at all. Here is my final word on this point: Based on the information that has been provided to me by both you and your opponent, I feel that both of you made a sufficient attempt to play. As for the PM, you posted less than 24 hours after sending it. I'm actually not on 2+2 all the time. The very very first thing I did after seeing your message for the first time was check this thread, and you had already posted. Patience, Grasshopper.

My assessment of the situation is of course that what loveinvain said is accurate, obviously.

Here is your second PM to me:

"im eastern time zone. how r we gonna arrange a match lol"

Here is the 4th PM I sent you.

"If tomorrow means Wednesday then that's no good for me. Friday same time is perfect. Thursday probably ok as well."

Note that I said Thursday was PROBABLY ok but not for sure. Had we made definite plans to play Thursday then I would have found time to send you a PM when it became clear that I could not play Thursday.

Again, I proposed the weekend which I did only because you seemed to take our 7 hour time difference as a huge obstacle. I was agreeable to playing during the week, I sent you 4 PM's ... how you can say that I made "no effort" is just bizarre to me. If you would have just waited until Friday we would have played. I did infact play on FICS Friday night, had a pleasant match against hoyasaxa among others. Instead of waiting a bit though for me to respond to your latest PM, you posted here complaining that I only gave you "one time to play at" which is absurd. I am now the third person I believe who has suffered your wrath because you couldn't wait more than a few hours for a response to your PM's. Like I said, on Thursday something came up and I was busy, am I supposed to feel guilty about that? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who does not sit behind a computer 24 hours a day, why can't you give say 24 hours to respond? Is that too much to ask? We have a week to play our match, we all have lives to live I would hope, why are you so impatient, you mentioned earlier that you have "a busy life" yet you are not too busy to complain publicly when your PM's are not immediately answered.

You say you quit chess because people take it too seriously yet you take offence when someone had the temerity to point out that you could have easily lost a match to a lower rated player not that anyone cares one way or the other except you. Infact the comment about that match wasn't even critical of your play, more of a compliment to your opponent who gave you a tough match despite having a much lower rating than you yet you took offence and your angry responses suggest that the only person taking this tournament "too seriously" is you.

Bottom line, this is supposed to be fun. I couldn't care less how our unplayed match is scored infact I assumed it be scored as a win for you, why do you care so much is the question when you previously complained about chess playing taking themselves too seriously and plus there is absolutely nothing at stake except for bragging rights which are lol minimal anyway this being a poker forum.

I play chess because it's fun, period. The prospect of playing you at this point feels more like some kind of a grudge match than fun which is why I would rather not play. That doesn't mean that I won't happily play you in the future if you just lighten up a little.

PS:
If there is any question at all about whether or not I did indeed send PM's etc. I would be more than happy to give BobJoeJim my password so that it can be verified that I did what I said I did.

Is the ending of the first game really a theoretical draw? If so, can you explain why?

The second game was nicely done by by black...

3rd game should have been finished off quicker...

there is absolutely 0 way to make any progress for black as white can just keep a rook on the 2nd rank to protect from checks, and if black rook leaves the 4th rank white will start checking.

edit: obv white would start checking if black brought the king back to say f4 and then move rook out of the 4th rank. if the king stays on h4 even if black rook moves to whatever rank/file, all white has to do is keep his rook on 2nd rank. as a matter of fact white can draw even without doing that by setting up Phillidor's position, that is play Rb3 and after Ra2+ just play Kg1, and now if g3 then play Rb8 and then start checking from behind (h8+, g8+ etc.)

Doesn't something like 72...g3 73. Rc3 Rd2+ 74.Kf3 Rf2+ do something for black?

I'm a bit of a noob in rook endings tbh

I just said that all white has to do is to not leave the second rank with the rook and you offer to play Rc3? all White has to do after g3 is to pick a file from 4 available ones (one is attacked by blacks rook, one is attacked by blacks pawn and two are blocked by white king) and put a rook there, ON SECOND rank. That's it, black cannot do ANYTHING.

edit: and again, if you don't remember the "second rank" thingy, Philidors position is still there to save you, you can just move the rook all the way up to 8th rank, after Black checks with the rook you move down with the King in the same file where blacks pawn is (g1 in this case) and again black cannot achieve progress because you will keep checking. Google Philidors position, it will take you 10 minutes to understand and learn it, it is absolutely crucial to know it as far as endings go.

First game is drawn, pretty much as YouKnowWho explained. I simply shuffle the rook on the 2nd rank. If black pushes the pawn, then if the rook leaves the 4th rank, I check with my rook (and take the pawn if possible) & continue to check until either I take the pawn, repeat the position, or make no progress & return to the 2nd rank. Even if the pawn gets to the 6th rank safely, I simply put the king in front of the pawn & put the rook on the opposite side of the board so that I can check the king from behind & there's no way to shield from the checks (not possible to put the king in front of the pawn with my king there).
http://chessok.com/?page_id=361 might also help.

Not exactly sure how I could have finished the third game quicker though ...

About the upcoming round - I will have to leave from Thursday for all the week (poker tournament BTW ), so I would really appreciate to have an European opp for next round, thank you Since I'm a working man, I won't be able to play at night/mourning/day for my timezone, only at evening - that would be very mourning for USA players.

Why would you wait for someone who has said he doesn't want to play you?

You really want to win this tournament? OK I will give you a chance to get our match played.

1 - admit you have were out of line complaining publicly more than once that people weren't responding to your PM's when you had not given them a reasonable amount of time to do so and they had infact previously been in touch with you

2 - apologize for being out of line

Do this and I will play you tonight. Fair enough?

Bottom line, I am happy to play a friendly match. I have no desire to play a match that has overtones of animosity.

I'll see what I can do, but I'm not actually 100% sure who is or isn't European here. Some I know, some I don't. Also of course I have to stay within the guidelines of Swiss System pairing. If I can make it work out that you get a European opp, though, I will.
