Yay for the Swiss gambit
Second OTB tourney I ever played, I lost round 1, got a 1-point bye in the second round, won rounds 3 and 4, then beat someone rated about 400 points higher than me in the final round to finish tied for second in the under-1600 section (I was rated under 1200 at the time). Took home my class prize. It was awesome!
The final round game got published in the tourney recap article in Northwest Chess, complete with analysis from a local master. I'll never forget the phrase "Note the excellent use of pawns" from his analysis. That article was the first place I ever heard the phrase "Swiss gambit".
Anyway, you're welcome. It's fun running these, but I couldn't do it without a great group of players, so thank you for playing, and the same goes to everyone else involved as well!
