I bought the premium edition and I'm enjoying it so far. One suggestion is to have a third sound option called "Vibrate", where sound is off if the vibrate switch is on, and vice versa. Sometimes I'd like to play in public but quiet areas without being a douchenozzle about it, and without needing to adjust the sound preferences every time.

Have played with it a bit, including during beta testing, and have to say that I prefer Backgammon NJ. My main annoyances so far are:
1. Before you can blink, the computer has rolled, moved and it's back to me who is wondering what happened, I didn't see it.
2. The human play is not sensitive enough. Too many times I press a checker and it doesn't move.

In summary, computer play is too fast, human play is too slow. In my opinion, neither are an issue with Backgammon NJ where I feel the game flow is much smoother. I got too frustrated with the beta testing of XG Mobile that I just stopped playing altogether.

I guess you do not understand what Beta Testing is: this is the kind of feedback that needed to be communicated to me before release.

Anyhow, i am surprise to hear that, none of the beta tester mentioned any problem with the computer playing too fast, nor issue about moving (besides the fact that on a phone, it can sometime be tricky to tap the right point)

How strong is XG mobile compared to a PC version (gameplay and analysis)?

The highest level of XG Mobile (Champion) is very similar the the PC version 3-ply Level.

here is more details from http://www.xg-mobile.com/help.html#level

How strong are the different levels?
  • Champion plays noticeably stronger than the top players in the world (PR=0.55). It will make a small mistake every 4.5 games and a blunder every 90 games.
  • Professional plays stronger than the top players in the world (PR=1.32).
  • Expert plays as strong as the top players in the world (PR=2.06).

How does the XG mobile level relate to eXtreme Gammon (desktop) levels?

XG Mobile Neural network and implementation is very similar to the one on eXtreme Gammon. However, there are slight differences and it very slightly weaker: XG mobile champion plays at a PR of 0.55, while eXtreme Gammon 3-ply equivalent plays at PR 0.50.
  • Champion is equivalent to 3-ply
  • Professional is equivalent to 2-ply
  • Expert is equivalent to 1-ply

Why eXtreme Gammon (desktop) stronger levels are not available in XG mobile?

eXtreme gammon strongest level (XGRoller++) would surely be nice to have on iPhone and iPad. However, at the current time, these devices are not powerful enough to handle the huge amount of calculations needed for these levels. XGRoller++ is 450 times slower than 3-ply (Champion). On an iPad 2, it would take about 4 minutes to get an answer.
In the future, as the devices get faster, and if we can find better way to optimize for ARM processor, maybe these levels will find their way to the iPhone and iPad.

I know, I know, my bad, sometimes I'm just not very organised. I'll keep playing and will see how it goes. Regarding tapping on the right spot on the phone, to me it looks like it's too precise. I have played thousands of games on Backgammon NJ for iPhone and have never had an issue with touch response/precision.

I'm having problems with the interface as well. Backgammon NJ's checker movement is much smoother.

The fast computer play isn't a big issue to me since the computer's move is irrelevant to my next double or play decision (as long as the computer's move is legal, of course).

Overall, I am impressed with the premium version.

Checker movement is fine for me (iPad2), though I had the app lock up on me once. It hasn't happened since, so it was probably just an isolated incident. I also had an instance where the tutor mode didn't put a circle around the cube, when I should have cubed, but that was also something I only noticed only during one session and it didn't occur again.

Overall I'm very happy with the app. It was definitely a steal. (Just like the PC version.)
