Why not make the 3pt here? Why not make the 3pt here?

0-0 to 7. Red to play 32.

I made the 3 point here without a second thought, but it was wrong!!

Any insight as to why would be appreciated.

If I were to guess, I would say some added flexibility + chance for a better anchor + white isn't in position to attack right now.

But I would play it as you did. Make the anchor and then you can focus on other things.

The key to this position, imo, is the total absence of White checkers in his outfield.

This makes your homeboard anchor almost worthless, and gives you a "free split" to improve coverage of his outfield and increase the chance of anchoring in his outfield, where you'd really like to drop anchor.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who laughed at this.

Oh No!

Next you will want to ask about contact positions with the opposite camp.

I would have made the 22-point over the board without much thought. Snowie, however, also plays B/23 24/21.

The idea here is evidently White's big stack on his midpoint combined with his empty outfield. His ideal play here would involve unstacking the midpoint and putting some builders in his outfield, and playing 23, 21 fights against that at little risk.

Easy to rationalize in retrospect but almost impossible to find over the board.
