I played 9/1* and it was a pretty big mistake. I’m guessing it’s because if I am hit and then enter i am in danger of having to collapse my home board? Just wondering if i am on the right line of reasoning there or missing something.
Right, white has a reasonable chance to counter-prime a hit black checker so you need to be a little cautious. The other thing going on is that winning a gammon doesn’t really help you at this match score so there’s less upside to getting missed. Not sure if your play is right for doubled money, say, but if it’s wrong, it will be closer. You’d definitely hit if it was the Crawford game and you needed 2 points to win the match since gammons are super valuable there.

I think hitting is right for money but yeah it's terrible ATS
