I would really like to find a nice online backgammon community.

FIBS looks dead and I am not too sure I like VIP Backgammon, but if this is the place now I'll log back. I would really like to have a place with a decent ambiance among the players and where I could get a feel of my ELO rating.

I mostly play on Backgammon NJ, my current rating is 2160, out of tens of thousands of games (been playing dozens per day for like 6 or 7 years).

Definitely check out Terje Pedersen's Backgammon Studio . It performs on-the-fly analysis of each move with a running PR as you play a match, so you can analyze your errors in real time, while it's fresh. Really pretty cool stuff; good site for improving your game with a bunch of practice sections too.

Once upon a time, I too was led by an adventure road and I was looking for an online community to play, but it all ended when a forum advised me and it turned out that the same people were close to me and we decided to get together in my garage to personally chat and play. This is one of the best solutions!
The only negative is that we always argue about which set to play, everyone wants to play their own. As a result, we made a vote to buy one set that we will play only in the company and nowhere else, we are considering these options. There are no particular differences, and I don’t understand this, but the rest is fundamental.

Hi, I'm interested in playing backgammon for play money online (like you could on Play65 in the past) - does something like this exist anymore? Even better if I were able to analyze games with an engine to learn from my mistakes.

There's a mobile app out there called Backgammon Ace (should come up when searched in the google or ios store) that does that. The money is kind of arbitrary, as in you can't set the amount per point. I think it scales depending on each player's bankroll. But it does have an engine that allows you to evaluate your matches after.

Fair warning, I play on iOS and didn't get any warnings but my friend got a bunch of permission requests when he installed it on Android. I'm assuming it's just asking for basic stuff but it was enough for him to not want to use it.

I haven't been on the site for some time but it used to be the case that new users would fill out some information (including a reference) and then get a user id. If that's not the case anymore then I can't be of help.
