What's wrong with 24/20(2)?
Or, put another way, what's better?

Isn't the rule: When you are in front in the running try to move your last checkers. When you are behind in the running keep your last checkers behind. Because when they move to 20 black has no bad rolls anymore because he can "dump" lots of checkers on 24-21 without any risk. Additionally a point on 11 makes dissolving the 9 harder.

I know that is the rule, but IÂ’d still make the 20 point. It still is a good way from becoming a pure race. Black has a lot of ammo ready to prime you, and if you hold back to wait for a shot, you might wind up not being able to take full advantage because your back men are trapped.

You are only 7 pups down after this roll. If you do get a big double to turn the race around, you are more likely to be able take advantage of you are on the 20. Think about a fairly likely scenario, for example - black makes his bat point then you roll 66. YouÂ’d like to be able to escape those stragglers.

A final consideration is the centered cube. If you owned the cube staying back might be better. However it is fairly likely black will reach a position where he could cash in the near future. You almost certainly have a take for the forseeeable future when you anchor on his 5 point. DonÂ’t underestimate the shot generation potential of that anchor. When you stay back black can slot outfield points relatively safely and build a prime from the back or position himself to make key points in front. You prevent this when you make the anchor and make his bear in far more difficult

Match score should make this pretty easy. Ahead in the match like this with your opponent 4-away, if you reduce the gammons for both sides, you make the cube more useful for you and less useful for you opponent. So if 24/20(2) is reasonable for money, you should definitely do it at the score.
