What Can Be Earnt In An Hour? What Can Be Earnt In An Hour?

OK, in British casinos there is usually a game of backgammon going on.

This is commonly a private affair. The casinos take no charge for allowing players to play backgammon.

You can play from £5 ($7.50+) to £20 ($30+) a point.

The competition is never all that steep.

What can be earnt in an hour of live backgammon play at £10 ($15+) a point?

Many thanks in advance.

PS: Great idea to have a backgammon forum on this site. It was one of the few things that the site was lacking.

The practical limit in a heads-up session is something like 8-10 points per hour. That assumes a world-class player against a weak and loose fish. So in a $15/point game, that's $120-$150/hour.

A world-class player against someone with a little experience who has read a book or two, but still with plenty of holes in his game, that's probably more like 5-6 points per hour.

In most cash games at clubs or tournaments, the better player would be pretty happy to get an opponent who's a 2 points/hour underdog.

Also keep in mind that most money games are played as chouettes with 4-6 players participating, rather than heads-up matches. There, win rates depend on the makeup of the chouette.

I have as of yet to see a chouette in a British casino as opposed to a proper backgammon club.

Didn't you know that "earnt" can be spelt like that? You're really spoilt for choice for words that take that ending in British English. I'm afraid you leapt to the wrong conclusion.
