I am looking for a nice board. I am an enthusiastic beginner, so I don't want to break the bank. Further, I want to be able to take it with me, so it should not be too large ("laptop size" is okay). I think the sound of the dice on wood is really annoying over a long time, so i prefer felt or something similar.

So far i have not found a board which fits my requirements. Do you know of any? And if not, are my requirements that unusual?

Gammonvillage.com carries a brand called Silverman and Co. They make a decent 13” board that should suit you fine. You can catch them on sale for about $80. I have one I keep around for travel and setting up positions on.

Your requirements are not "unusual"... but just tough to fill.

I don't know what "breaking the bank" means to you, but if you can afford it, I recommend any of the $295 Wycliffe Brothers boards over at GammonVillage. I own several of them and I still think they are the best "bang for the buck" out there.

That price includes shipping.

If you can't afford $295 then MadManish's suggestion from yesterday for a smaller size Silverman & Co board is a good one, although most of those boards are now closer to $100 if you aren't able to catch them on sale.

Thanks for the suggestions. $295 is a bit too much for me. So I guess I have to wait for the sale of the Silverman & Co.
