Red on roll in both situations, cash games with centred cube. (I was white in this game.)

I don't understand why GNU says to cash in these 2 positions-- in the second problem, white gammons over 50% of the time, and the cubeless equity is >1!

You're most likely playing with the Jacoby rule in a cash game. Jacoby rule states that you can't win a gammon or backgammon unless the cube has been turned.

Ah thanks... Jacoby rule was not in effect for the actual match, but it seems GNU's analysis defaults to use Jacoby. Thanks!
