Reroll or not? Reroll or not?

Watching 2005 WSOB and the guys die rolls on top of opponents checker. Nobody says anything and the roll stands. Huh, I thought this has to be a reroll, because the die landing on a checker constitutes a false roll. I was playing a money game with a world renowned player and I thought that I had to reroll. It was a great roll, but I thought it did not count. I hardly ever play live backgammon, so hoping someone can clear this up for me. Thanks.

Yeah, it's a reroll as per the standard rules. Can't comment on the WSOB thing.

Yes, reroll. I've never seen a ruling to the contrary.

ALRIGHT!
Here's my chance to gripe about the one thing I hate about backgammon (besides losing):
Rolling the dang dice on the board!
The dice lands cocked in the corner. Reroll.
The dice lands on a checker. Reroll.
The dice lands in the opponents board. Reroll.
Reroll, reroll, reroll, reroll...
The dice hits a checker and bounces off the table. Ya gotta go lookin' for it.
On a really cheap set, the dice knock the checkers around.

Why can't we just have seperate trays to roll the dice in??!! (The tray would have rounded corners that the dice can't land cocked in.)

With only a moderate amount of self-control, these situations can be avoided most of the time.

haha- that gizmo looks AMAzing!! It's a brilliant idea, but in a way I agree with geneftw, anything which kills the frustration of bg maybe kills the game a little bit as well, since pain and rage and angst is at its very heart. That said, there's a thread here somewhere about some slimy cheater in a hotel lobby who tricks the dice - I can just imagine his face if you acccepted his offer of a game... and then produced Brett Meyer's extraordinary gadget...
