Hi,
I recently got back into backgammon, and whilst im sure I definitely need a ton of help with strategy, im interested in any book recommendations with a significant non-strategic element - those dealing more with the world of backgammon, the history of the game, anecdotes, stories etc. Any recommendations?

Backgammon Praxis (vol 1/2) is primarily a strategy book but has a ton of exposition and color and history mixed in — would highly recommend both.

Praxis is great but I wouldn't recommend it for what he's looking for. Having said that, I don't have any recommendations.

Try some or all of the following: "The Backgammon Book" by Jacoby and Crawford, "Backgammon, the Cruelest Game" by Barclay Cooke, "The Playboy Book of Backgammon" by Lewis Deyong, and "The Backgammon Chronicles, Vol 1 and 2" by Bob Wachtel. They all have what you're looking for.

The only backgammon book I have ever had is "The Backgammon Book". I have read it several times, sometimes for learning, but at least as much for the stories.

Backgammon For Blood, by Bruce Becker was written as a strategy book, but far better to read for color. It was published in 1975, before we had the references we have now, but most people recognized even at the time that the strategy Bruce outlined would be disastrous.

Read for entertainment only!
