In theory, yes. In practice, how many professional BG players are there vs the amount of pro poker players?
It is much harder to make a living playing BG and I don't think it is possible to make a living online at all.
So, you can make a profit but you can't make nearly as much money as you can at poker.

Yeah, virtually all the former pro backgammon players switched over to poker after the poker boom started.
