I have noticed recently that some players are letting a lost game time out without penalty. This appears to be new as they used to lose so much equity that it was not worth doing. Now they can simply sit back, and if they have a lower error rating when they time out they do lose any rating points on a lost game. This tactic used to sicken me on other gammon sites, so is this a change on Galaxy and has anyone else had this experience?

I haven't noticed this, but check the 'Backgammon News' forum on Facebook. That's a forum for non-strategy related posts for Galaxy and this problem certainly fits that category.

Will do.

It happen twice recently and the players who deliberately timed out when I rolled the winning dice were given a very low error rating of 2 or 3. Having said that, it just happened again and the player who only had one blunder 0.101 and one minor error 0.026 was given a Beginner rating of 25.5 for the game so maybe it is fixed.

The penalty for timing out/resigning depends on how much match winning chances you're giving up. At the start of the game it's a huge blunder, while if they're ~guaranteed to lose anyway it doesn't matter. That could be what you're running into.

Yes I can see that it would not make any difference to the end result, but this is extremely bad sportsmanship and etiquette which should not go unpunished.
