This is a tough game to get the hang of.
The following situation came up, and I played the conservative move shown after some thought. I considered the correct move, 7/2 6/2, but discounted it, figuring that I am ahead and so there is no need to risk getting hit and having my small prime ruined.

The next move gave me the chance to hit, without leaving a blot. I never even considered running the back checker out with 24/15 (the correct move). What is the difference between the 2 positions that makes not running such an error in this diagram?
