My most amazing event happened about 30 years ago in a local game. I was in the box in a six player consulting chouette and while my opponents were discussing their next play, I saw that whatever they did I would have a good double. We were playing a separate cubes game and the cubes were quite small. While they were arguing their play, I quietly put the five cubes in my dice cup instead of the dice. They made their play - I started to vigorously shake the dice cup as if to roll - made the toss - and all five cubes came up with the 2's up!! There was a deathly silence. Then the game went on - you would think everyone would go home after that.

Hello,

I hope I will not pollute your thread, but I have some difficulties to play backgammon online.

I would like to know where you play online, for money, playmoney, or just for rankings (Elo).

I'm a novice, I do not imagine earning money, I just want to play and increase my skills.

Unfortunately, I find nothing to play online. Probably because I don't speak a good english.

I've try to play on fibs with a Java applet then a 3dfibs client, but it does not work, impossible to join a game or invite a player... And it seems there is not a lot of players during the day and evening (CET time)

Then I would like to try GridGammon (discover in your posts), but there is no link to register on their site.

Then, I try BGRoom, but they refuse Belgium players.

Finally I work on Gnu software, but I'm a little sad to play against a computer. I would like to play with human players, play tournament, have fun, maybe find a community or a club...

Have you please some advices? It is very sad to play alone.

Thanks

And sorry again if I post in a wrong thread, but english is difficult to understand for me.

The main Facebook backgammon app might be right for you. It has cash values, the doubling cube and a reasonable standard once you get to the 5k+ games while also having fake money bankroll management etc.

Rolls that you don't put the checker off (5/36) x doubles for your opponent (1/6) = 5/216.
Or about 2.3% of the time.
Or about 1 time every 43 games.

If you ever believed that after contact, if villain had two checkers way behind he was dead then this endgame is not for you.
Please help me keep my mental health ...

At the time I was seriously steaming, but now I look back on it with the satisfaction of knowing that you have to have played a lot of backgammon for this kind of thing to happen. Plus, it was just a loss on Microsoft's backgammon site that comes with Windows, so it wasn't like it cost me money or anything.
Computerized backgammon is not real backgammon so don't get all wrapped up with how many you lost or won. Higher rated players get more doubles and most of the time better rolls. I order to beat a higher rated player you must keep them down to one move as much as you can by butting them on the bar as much as you can. In your free time have two long ins and play yourself to raise your point score so you get better rolls. Also play real backgammon with some how can play and you'll see that these right rolls that happen on the computer game does not happen. Lesson is play the computer to pass time don't take it serious because it's bs. Play real backgammon for .25 with cube and you'll say to yourself why did I ever waste my time on the computer backgammon. Also these people that tell you that it experience or any of the other bs that they can make up are full of it. If you know how to play it the luck of the roll in real BG and on the computer the computer controllers the roll. I hope you never feel frustrated again playing online BG it's all a waste of time if you take it serious.

Wow, the old "backgammon dice is rigged post".

I guess it's not surprising that people think that, I just didn't expect it here.

I'd delete it if it was a new thread, but in this thread anything goes (pretty much).

Hey everyone
It’s been a long time since I’ve been on these forums. After a marriage, divorce and child I’ve found the time to be able to be competitive in backgammon again. Where does everyone hang out these days online, does anyone still play head to head online? I have gnu and xg but it’s still fun to have backgammon comrades

Anyone know of such a service?

Try Backgammon Galaxy. It's got about 53,000 rated players, and about 500-600 are online at any one time playing matches.

It's a web-based platform though, isn't it?

Are there any mobile apps that connect to the Backgammon Galaxy server that I'm not aware of?
