My Cube Play Needs a Lot of Work My Cube Play Needs a Lot of Work

I'm sorry if this has been discussed in a thread recently, but I looked back about a year and didn't see anything. If I missed it, I'm sorry.

My cube decisions need some work and it is rather obvious that it is in this area that I need to improve and spend my study time. Anybody have any suggestions on books to read, study problems, etc. to help me improve by cube play? At this point, I think anything will help.

Thanks.

Every time I start reading about doubling strategy I walk away with the conclusion that better cube play will come mostly as a result of better checker play. Studying middle game strategy, for example, will lead to a better understanding of different positions and what's strong or weak and likely to lead to different outcomes.

Doubling decisions are usually easier than taking decisions. If you're contemplating a double, ask yourself three questions:

> Do I have a better position? (More points, better points, good distribution, fewer blots, no one on bar)

> Am I ahead in the race?

> Do I have threats? (Hitting blots, making points, escaping the back checkers.)

If all three can be answered "Yes", then you almost certainly have a double. If you've got two out of three, you probably have a double.
