Read Sticky before attempting to post position. It was not helpful. Went to GNU on copying positions for posting in Word Document. Got position in respectable shape but became distorted when I posted to this thread. TY for reply.

Try going to this web site: Mind Games Center

In GnuBg, you can press Ctrl+C to copy the GnuBg ID, and then paste it in at Mind Games. After you generate a diagram at Mind Games, copy the codes and paste them in your message here.

I usually delete the advertising and the center tags, but that's just my preference.

In your message, please paste a copy of the GnuBg ID so that readers can copy it if they want to.

Hope this helps.

White - Pips 167

Black - Pips 167
Black on roll. Cube action?

Something must be wrong with your GnuBg ID. I tried it at Mind Games and also in GnuBg. Both of them give me the starting position with the cube at bottom on 4.

I used GNU edit to set up position. Maybe the GNU settings are for opening board since that is where I started the edit function. This position was not arrived at in a GNU match.

I would not have the nerves to double this one, and sometimes fear is your best friend. Also with 2 checkers on the bar, black has time to enter and next to wait till black leaves a blot, which is very likely. If he hits, in most cases black will probably have a pass. On top of this, I think white has more chance of a gammon, as he might hit more than one blot with an almost closed board.

I am not at all sure about this one, but here is my thinking.

Working backwards from the take, I see this as a relatively clear take. As always, as White in this position I would prefer not be doubled, but the game has a long way to go, and passing gives up a lot of equity.

What about the double? 13 numbers hit. Are they all market losers? I think that is the key question. Perhaps many of the hitting sequences are market losers (especially when White dances), but many others are probably not. Indeed, if White were to enter with doublets, Black might not even have a cube.

I am not sure about gammons, but my guess is that neither side is losing excessively many. Perhaps both sides are losing gammons in the low teens, and because they are roughly equal, they cancel out.

The recube for White is very powerful. Because of that, I am inclined not to double this. With a centered cube, the decision is closer, but I would still wait.
