I am triply confused. Now that I understand the rationale for the decline of double in Money Game #2, I am totally dumbfounded with the rationale for a take in Money Game #3. GNU says it is a take. I have lost the race, lost in development (none) and lost in any potential threats (unless potential minor anchor is worth something). I am zero for 3. Please compare to Money Game #2.

White - Pips 148

Black - Pips 164
White doubles. Take or Pass?

The position-race-threats guideline (Sylvester's Rule) is only a general guideline. You still have to look at each position individually and see what you think. It's less useful for blitz positions than other kinds of positions, since in almost every blitz you'll be ahead in all three criteria, yet many of those positions will be easy takes.

Two things stand out about this position:

(1) You have a 3-point board but only two builders in the zone. That means a closeout is a long way off. Meanwhile Black is just a roll away from making a good anchor.

(2) You're on the bar, so you can't do all that much with your first roll. Entering and hitting loose somewhere is a good result, but Black will then be a big favorite to enter and anchor.

The checker on the bar is really huge. If your checker on the bar were somewhere in Black's board, this would be much closer to a pass.
