Hi, look at the two requests. VERY IMPORTANT the B question.

PART ONE

Here the position looks simple: 3 point match, black 6-3 to play,

a) In your opinion what's the best move? (explain why etc...)
b) Find your second and third choice and pretend it's a money game. By how much (fraction of cube points) do you think is them worse than your first choice?

White - Pips 145. Match Score 0/3

Black - Pips 120. Match Score 0/3
Black to Play 6-3

PART TWO

Very interesting position from the perspective of White playing a 5/2 back game. I guess many players in black's position avoid hit in hopes that white crunches board or forces white to break defensive 5 point. I am a novice and would go for hit and try to get into a To Good to Dbl position. White appears to have easy take and Black probably does not have a dbl.

Now to reverse decision. If White I want you to hit. White needs some timing for 5/2 back game to have a chance. White's only hopes rest upon a fly shot and the strength of his stellar board.

I am sorry but you do need a pro for advise. I have a strange feeling you are giving up a lot of equity by hitting. "I am a man with constant sorrows" and would hit for the gammon potential.

In Part 1 you want to skip the hit and just play 13/4. Your goal is to make your 3-point next. As long as that's open, you don't have much. After something like 15/12* 13/7, you have two outfield blots to clean up, so if White gets to the outfield you have to deal with your blots rather than make the point you need. After 13/4, you've buttoned up and now half your numbers will make the 3-point.

In part 2, 12/9* 8/4 seems to minimise shots, so what not?

In part 2, just play 15/12 8/4. Next turn, combinations 0f 4s, 5s, and 6s will clear the 12 point, while combinations of 4s, 3s, and 1s will make the 3-point. Hitting volunteers a few return shots that will probably cost you the game if he hits back.

Ooops, I guess I was still asleep, completely oversaw this 100% safe move.

Could be my obsession with hitting also...

Even more frustratingly, I wanted to play safe and didn't see the move. Cannot believe it.

That's actually a big problem for me it seems. Missing a relatively obvious move.

It's a big problem for everybody. Simply overlooking a candidate play is the biggest source of costly errors for players of any level.
