Hi everyone,

I am a complete noob in Backgammon and thought about learning a little bit more about the relevant probabilities and what to take care of by programming an engine or at least by reading about how an engine works.

I have a background in chess, so i am pretty spoiled. In chess there are large communities and even tournaments for computer chess. There are also free servers like lichess, where you can plug in your engine and play it against other human players (if it's marked as an engine). In Backgammon the information is spread very thinly and it seems the community is nearly dead.

In chess there are standards for representing a board, and there are standardized protocols how two chess engines can "talk" to each other. Is there an analogous thing in Backgammon, and if yes, where can i find it.

I wouldn't say the community is "nearly dead" because I don't think it ever existed in the first place.

As far as I know there are no such standardized protocols in backgammon. If you're a beginner, the best way to improve is to read good books and play a lot of backgammon on Galaxy.
