Just how bad are cheap dice? Just how bad are cheap dice?

I recently bought a gorgeous Crisloid attache tournament backgammon set (well, I think it's gorgeous - I know there are better things out there, but I really like the solidity and feel of the thing). Anyway, it came with presumably cheap dice (unfortunate for a $300 backgammon board, but I digress). I could swear that the black set is strongly biased in favor of "4". Should I immediately trash the dice that came with the board and order some precision dice? Or am I being overly paranoid....

In tournaments everyone plays with precision dice, and I highly recommend them. You can find them at various places, but Carol Cole has the best selection I know of at www.flintbg.com.

The most popular sizes are 9/16" and 5/8".

Thank you! I got some 5/8" precision dice and I am loving the way they feel! Whether or not they are fairer, they're just much more satisfying from a tactile perspective, in my view.

Also I am much happier with the larger dice.
