At this point, I sort of think we should just start playing. Otherwise, this isn't going to go anywhere.

3. We use the bracket proposed by djk123. We can accommodate 8 more entries into that bracket, randomly assigned by djk123, our newly appointed Tournament Director. After that the tourney's closed.

That's the easy part. Now for the hard part. Which site do we play on? I have no idea. I've only ever played at FIBS. Is everyone registered there? Do we all even need to play at the same site? Do any sites allow for private tournies like this? I think it makes sense for all us all to play this out at one site, if at all possible, but i don't know what's out there.
1. No entry fee is established I think.

2. I am fine with one match to 13 points.

3. djk123's bracket was perfect for that amount of players. He is seconded for tournament director. I am sure he will do fine accommodating more players as they might arrive. All of us gain with more players arriving. That is if we wish for a more fair tournament because the more players, the less bys in the first round. This is only true if we cap it at 32 players, which I do not think is a concern, but yet should be addressed.

So, I suggest this:

We make a time of last registration, perhaps Sunday Aug 2nd at 11:59 eastern time (UTC/GMT -4 hours). Capped at 32 players. However many players we have at that time is what we make the draw at, with respective brackets. The draws will be made and announced by Tuesday Aug 4th. Then players have until Monday 11:59 eastern the next week to play their match and report it to djk123. He will officially announce the next matches the next day, Tuesday. Then those players also have until Monday11:59 to report those results. And so on.

The reason I picked eastern time zone is because it is full tilt's time and I thought most would be familiar with it. I want to move forward and I think throwing something solid down is a good idea. I am certainly flexible on any of the above except for buy-in's which I think most everyone wants to be free.

I'll play. I used to play a lot online and bounced between 1700 and a touch over 1900 on fibs, currently 1750 or something and am playing a fair bit again.

How will you handle disputes as to if two people don't play in one week as to who was at fault? I played in the gammonline (Kit Woolsey's, now GammonU) deal and a tourny their took over a year because people were given a month to play and STILL couldn't get it in. It was frustrating emailing people over and over and not getting a reply for weeks.

I like the one week per match time frame. 13 pnts seems about the minimum so that's cool too.

If I can get on the list, count on me.

I can play either TMG or Fibs. You should have people save the match record for confirmation plus discussion of any interesting positions.

Glad I finally noticed this site had a backgammon forum.

For now I an only play on TMG. I guess, I can register on FIBS if need be, but isn't the software on that site as ancient as the site itself?

I use javafibs too (not sure which version) but I've also used cocoafibs (http://www.assembla.com/wiki/show/cocoafibs) with no problems.

From what I see TMG doesn't provide a Mac client.

I will prefer FIBS to any site/server owned by rake bastards. (The rakes in bg are %#&#$!) But then there is the time issue... It doesnt matter in this tourney, but distributing the byes before everybody has signed up favors the ones having signed up early unless you redraw.

True but since we're playing for fun regging late ensures you to get the most possible games which I guess is the point in this tournament.

Simply forfeit both players if the match has not been played within the allocated time.

I agree. We could always have another tourney if this one works out well. Three more people have expressed interest since I posted the bracket. Maybe they could just be alternates this time in case any of the original 24 either forget about this or cannot play?

If that's okay, then I think we should start.

$0 Entry Fee
1 15 point match , single elimination (maybe discuss a longer championship match when time arrives?)
Use whatever software is convenient for both players as long as it can support 15 pt matches, no beavers etc.

Everyone should complete their matches by next Friday August 7th. If one player cannot get in touch with their opponent by friday, then i think they should have the option of having one of the previously mentioned alternates play.

Thoughts? Objections?

Ok. Fine with me. I was just thinking I had some stuff I need to do and would be more busy than I thought. So I was thinking of saying not to try to bracket me. So I'm out for this one whatever your decision on the others. Thanks.

GL all players!

How do you retrieve a FIBS password if you forgot it?

Let the latecomers play imo. The more the merrier. Just rand between the byes.

Are we using your posted bracket or are you going to redraw based on the new players? If we're going with the current bracket then I await the winner of the chipslinger/ferrengi match.

Until then, if someone else with a bye this week wants a practice match on FIBS, give me a PM.

Is this running? Has anybody played yet?

I'm still willing to risk my bye to let the late arrivals play.

Not sure how or where to post results but me and Noir_Desir just played a great match. I got some good rolls at the right times and won 15-8 even though the Gnu analysis of the match is telling me i should never play backgammon again.

ok, seems like we've started, so im guessing that we're just using the original 24 person bracket?

Can you confirm that the timezone is actually GMT-7 rather than GMT-9 ?

This is probably the best way: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=127

The current time on the link matches my clock. We'll play in 4 hours and 45 minutes.

Edit #2: Oh... I see what happened... *I* forgot to adjust for daylight savings time... If we don't find our way to FIBS at the same time, it's completely on me.
