I could be wrong.
There are no match-dependent strategies. Just try to win each one as you would if you were only playing one match.

Cube decisions and checker decisions can vary depending on the score.

Ofcourse, I thought you ment if you had to change your match startegy say you were trailing 1 match in best of 3 instead of leading.

Match strategies were very well understood as far back as the 1980s.

I prefer 1 match to 15 points.
My second choice would be best out of 3 7 point matches.

OK I can get this show on the road if nobody else is volunteering. djk123, are you still intending to run this?

id like to get it going as well, but you're welcome to run things i guess we just need a finalized list of who can def play and then we have to make a bracket

I think someone just needs to set the bracket, set the format (length, buy-in, amount of time to complete a match), and then tell everyone to go.

Let's close registration when we hit 32 entrants (if that is possible at all).

Added. I'd be interested as long as it's just fun - I'm not very good and just getting into things but I think it'd be fun to do anyway. Please PM when it happens.

Match format/length? Buy-in?

Don't mind being corrected if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that this was just going to be for fun/bragging rights, based on most people's comments.

If there is to be a buy-in, it would have to be agreed on before the draw (before we see who has a bye). If we're going to play for money, we all have to agree on a buy-in and then re-draw.

If it's just for fun, let's go with the draw that djk123 made, and if for any reason a player can't/doesn't play, they forfeit that match and their opponent gets a bye to the next round.

Buy-in = 0 is perfectly fine by me. There was some discussion earlier on about it and I don't know if any consensus was ever reached.

As this is a pilot project can we start with 13-point matches and reevaluate match lenght/format after the tournament? I feel 13-point matches is a good mix between a fairly long match that can be played in a resonable amount of time.

At this point, these are the terms as I see them:

1. No entry fee.

2. Each match is one game to 13 points

3. We use the bracket proposed by djk123. We can accommodate 8 more entries into that bracket, randomly assigned by djk123, our newly appointed Tournament Director. After that the tourney's closed.

That's the easy part. Now for the hard part. Which site do we play on? I have no idea. I've only ever played at FIBS. Is everyone registered there? Do we all even need to play at the same site? Do any sites allow for private tournies like this? I think it makes sense for all us all to play this out at one site, if at all possible, but i don't know what's out there.

I still don't know how to get on FIBS with a Mac.

i dont think it really matters what site u play on as long as the site can accomodate the designated rules and match length

I use JavaFibs 1.0.11_JDK13.jar which I got a year or so ago. Newer versions didn't work so I've just stuck with that one.

With 24 players so far I'm wondering if a double-elimination might make more sense, but I don't know enough about it to do anything but suggest the idea.
