Interest in a forum tournament? Interest in a forum tournament?

I'm not exactly sure how it would be set up or on what site we would play, but it seems like it would be fun to have a forum tournament. One way we could do it is randomly create a bracket, and then each pairing would have to play out their match at a convenient time before a set deadline.

I wouldn't mind just playing for fun/bragging rights, especially since I will be hugely -EV , but since this is a gambling forum I'd be willing to donate a reasonable amount also. I'm not sure how payment would work since I assume not everyone has online poker accounts.

I might be down for this, depending on the parameters.

FIBS would be a good way to go.

I'd play. Is there a way to get on FIBS using a Mac?

As long as you have any telnet application, you can get in. It does take a tiny bit of tweaking to get it to work right (so that it's formatted for telnet use), but when the time comes I'm sure we can get the information right.

Yeah I'd play on FIBS. Might be tough to schedule my matches though as I am on hols in NZ at the moment, so intermittent net access plus timezone issues.

You can export FIBS into GNU. There used to be a funny little bug where it would do everything but the very last move. I don't know if that's still there.

My first post in this forum but have played for a few years. Probably wouldn't want to play against you guys for money (unless it's something fairly insignificant) as I'm not great, but will definitely play if it's just for bragging rights/micro-stakes.

When I from time to time play matches for fun I play on True Money Games. In my opinion they have the best software and they allow up to 17-point matches for fun money.

what format do you guys think would be good? one match of ___ length (17 i guess if thats the max) or a best of 5 series of matches? i have no idea how official backgammon tournaments are organized.

I believe that ABT plays long single matches, but Europeans have series of short matches. I don't think it matters much to me.

i would be in, but with an EV of like -0.98*buyin i'd like it too be not too expensive and i need to play at somewhat reasonable euro-times.

i reckon we should run it. it will probably take a fair bit of time to schedule and play matches but who cares? its not like there will be heaps of competitors and there's no rush.

Also, would be fun to analyse our matches afterwards and post them with commentary about wtf we were thinking when we made our bad plays, etc.

Also there'd be no need to mandate FIBS or TMG, could just get each bracket to sort their own match out.

chipslinger
popeye
