How good is the average casual backgammon player, and general advice for getting into the game. How good is the average casual backgammon player, and general advice for getting into the game.

So last week I was playing poker at a local card room, and one of the members mentioned that he will play "anyone for any amount of money" in backgammon. This guy is pretty much the perfect mark to hustle as a person: rich, relatively stupid / weak poker player, very gambly, very big ego. I had already been interested in backgammon, so I decided to get into it with the hopes of playing this guy in money games at some point and winning some serious money off of him.

I downloaded extreme Gammon, and have just been grinding that for the past few days to improve (I looked into some books / youtube material but honestly I didn't understand any of the jargon so I gave up on it). Anyway, I have gotten to the point where I would say I am playing around a 10-20 PR for 75% of my games, sometimes as low as a 6 or as high as a 30 but usually in that 10-20 range.

So, I am wondering about the strength of a player like this, who has probably played a decent bit casually, and only *maybe* done a bit of basic studying (even this I kinda doubt). I genuinely have no idea how a 10-20 PR player would compare to that. I would also appreciate any advice about ways to improve other than grinding Extreme that may be useful, or advice for playing money games and on a real board for the first time. Any advice extremely appreciated! Thanks.
