Hello!

Would you hit or make a 5-prime?

I strongly prefer 13/7 8/3*. If we play 13/8 13/7 instead, we're getting primed worse than he is (because we need a 3 followed by a 5 or 6 to escape, and even if we roll a perfect number like 36 he'll get a direct shot at us -- while on the other hand he only needs to roll a 6 to jump our 5-prime and be home free because we will have broken our midpoint). We'll need quite a few rolls to extract our back checker and we only really have a shot at doing this successfully if he is on the bar. Plus if he hits we have decent chances of making an anchor which gives us a few extra wins.

Extreme gammon says that too and now I understand the reasons. Thank you!

All of this and I'll add that hitting brings our checkers on the 2-point back into play, both because it matters when he's in the air and also because it becomes a blocking point when he enters with a 1, and having more checkers in play really matters in prime-vs-prime

+1 to what's been said.
Also, we have the stronger board so it doesn't discourage hitting loose.
