Hello.

I'm around 1800 Elo.

I'm going to memorize the best opening moves for the 15 first rolls.

But I'm not sure what I should memorize exactly.

I've found this very useful article: http://www.bkgm.com/openings/rollouts.html

It shows the CL equity, the DMP equity, the GG equity, the GS equity, for each possible move for each of the 15 first rolls.

Should I just memorize the move with the highest CL equity (which is the objectively best move)?

Or should I memorize the best moves for each of the 4 possible situations:
- DMP
- GG
- GS
- and the "normal situation" where we're not in DMP, not in GG and not in GS
?

For example, for the roll 4-3, what exactly should I memorize and play?

Should I just play 13/10, 13/9 every single time because it's the best move objectively speaking (the move with the highest CL equity)?

Or should I
- play 24/21, 13/9 when I'm in DMP
- play 24/21, 24/20 when I'm in GS
- and play 13/10, 13/9 when I'm in GG or in the "normal situation"
?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

You might find Jeremy Bagai's last piece of work helpful. It gets good reception.

Here's a very quick way to think about the 15 opening rolls, which will give you 99% of the information you need.

Five of the 15 are forced: 31, 42, 53, 61, and 65. With the first four, make a point. With 65, run to the midpoint.

One of the 15 has a clearly best play: 62. Play 24/18 13/11. Alternatives aren't blunders, but there's no reason to make any other play.

The remaining 9 are essentially toss-ups for money, and break down into three groups:

(1) The aces (21, 41, and 51) where slotting with 6/5 is the aggressive play, and splitting 24/23 is the defensive play.

(2) The run or split plays (63, 64), where splitting is the aggressive play and running is the defensive play.

(3) The split-or-build plays (43, 32, 52, 54) where bringing two builders down is the aggressive play, and splitting plus bringing down one builder is the defensive play.

If you're playing a weaker opponent, or trailing in a match, make the aggressive play.

If you're playing a better opponent, or leading in a match, make the defensive play.

Isn't making the 2-pt with 64 now a toss-up at worst? I still prefer to play it 24/18 13/9 under normal circumstances, but aren't the numbers backing up 8/2 6/2 nowadays?

This is a really easy way of looking at these rolls, thanks Robertie.

Unless you are an even number away in which case you should make the more aggressive play in a match even when leading...(most of the time lol) ------but yes this advice is still as sound as it comes.
